Ok, I realize we are talking about and high performance 350-400 hp car(depending on year) and a myriad of driving styles, But how many miles are y'all getting out of your factory tires? and is anyone replacing them early and why? I'm probably going to get @30k-35k out of mine @ the pace I am driving and will replace them in the before they bald with michelin pilot ps2 tires. Oh, and rotate those baby's every at least every 5000 miles if you want them to last. ;)

At 7,750 miles, these are my depth gauge readings in the four grooves in 1/32's of an inch, inside to outside, along with psi:

front rear
------------------------------------------
right 8-9-9-8, 31.5 6-6-7-6, 32.0
left 8-9-9-8, 31.0 7-7-7-7, 31.0

Yes, I know 35 psi is written on the door jamb. At about 3,000 miles I discovered all four were at 50 psi as others have said. I bled them to 35 psi at that time, a few months ago, and I am startled that they went down from 35 to these readings. I've never had any tires lose pressure like that in a few months.

Because the centers were higher than the edges, I went to 37 psi, looking to even out the wear across the grooves.

I thought new tires started at 13/32"? Anybody know? These tires are now average 7.5/32".

If these BFG tires were 13/32 new, then useable life is 13/32 minus 2/32 s**** time = 11/32. And they are now 7.5/32 minus 2/32 s**** time = 5.5/32 or half of 11/32! Looks like a life of 15,000 miles! Gas, Tires, Oil (GTO) all expensive. Maybe I've been having too much fun and should slow down?

Hey, "s**** time" was NOT an expletive. I wrote "S-C-R-A-P time".

All the grooves on mine were 9/32s when the car had about 200 miles on it.

fyi, the bfgs kdws come with 10/32 of tread from the factory and @13,000 miles I am at about 6-7/32nds on all tires after 2nd rotation (300 miles ago). high performace tires(i mean v-speed and higher rated) generally don't come with more than that although some have 11/32nds b/c the tread would "squirm" excessively and handling would be comprimised....it is one of the reason why the really deep tread "mudder" truck tires "walk" so much

The oem tirs have a 400 tread life rating on the sidewall. That's good for 40,000 miles I think.Changed mine to 165 tread life after burning off originals. The 165 tread is much softer and grippier and much quieter, but won't last as long as originals as rated.Being grippier they won't spin as easily, but give a much better squeal when they do.Much better in the wet and awsome in autocross.Don't forget,if you don't get Z speed rate replacements you have to tell your insurance carrier. If you have a wreck that is tire related(skidding, breaking, etc)your insurance won't cover you or the other car.Same thing if you change sizes.Tread wear ratings are ok if Z rated.Oem tires should be inflated to 30lbs minimum,35 tops as my tire dealer and mechanic told me.Tires have wear bars in tread. When incerting a penny upside down if the head on the penny reaches the tread it's time to replace the tire.Rotate every 6,ooo miles and they only roll one way so don't criss cross them, just back to front.Z tires are like that.Z rated stands for 149mph max speed, and when you spin them can be reached easily.Good Luck.Z tires run any where fron $75JAP tires to $175 French Michelins,$149 American Good Year Be carefull if you do the changing as over torcing will warp the break roters and you must follow lug pattern. That info is in manuel.

huh. didn't know that about insurance company!... Fyi, i believe that you are mistaken on the directional rotations pattern only...the bfg's are assemetrical, not directional, so they can be rotated in a cross pattern instead of front to rear, regardless of the speed rating(rotations pattern is in the owner's manual). Oh, and be careful when having the wheels torqued on the car(as silverstreak said) b/c they only go to 75 lb ft or something(check manual!!!) not 95+ lb ft like camaros/'vettes, 'birds, and T/A's..most shops will assume or just wrench 'em down with an impact wrench--remind them!! Lug nut torque - Both the Owner Manual and GM Service Manual indicate 100 ft lb (at least for an '05).
