: Drive train loss c6 to 05 GTO

I’ve owned several c5’s, but have never had any of them put on a dyno. I have heard just like many of you that the c5’s lose more power through the drive train than the f-bodies. I do believe this to be true. My 98 c5, auto with the performance gear was rated at 345 hp at the fly wheel and my buddies’ 2001 z28 was rated at 310 hp. When we would race he would always pull on me and at the track would always have a few mph’s more than me. The reason I am bringing this up is that I don’t believe things have really changed that much when comparing the new c6 to the 05 GTO to drive train loss. Now I’m not saying that the GTO will beat a c6, but I was wondering how the two dyno compared to each other. They are both rated at the same hp and yes the GTO does out weight it, but it does have better gearing and less drive train loss. Has anyone seen these two cars dynode stock or has any one with these two vehicles raced. My buddy has a 05 c6, but has now put the 1.85 rockers on his car, so I never got a chance to race him stock. We are both autos and I’m curious how close it might have been stock.

The GTO has quite a bit of drivetrain loss, probably because of the independent rear suspension. It's common for a 2004 GTO (LS1/350 HP) to dyno 10 HP or so less than a 2001-2002 Camaro or Firebird (LS1). Basically the stock LS1 GTOs usually dyno between 285-300 rear wheel HP.

The LS2 GTOs usually dyno between 330-345 rear wheel HP (just an approximation based on the posts I've seen). I don't know what the C6 typically dynos but I bet it is similar to the LS2 GTO.

The GTO will experiance the same loss as it along with the vette are IRS, the fbody doesn't because it had a live axle set-up. Thus they will always dyno higher.

There is another factor, the C5 has a more restrictive exhaust due to the tail end design. I believe they fixed that for the c6.

A C5/C6 has the same, if not more, drivetrain loss as a GTO. Remember that the Vettes also have a torque tube and rear mounted trans. Stock vs. stock, the C6 should get you by about a carlength or so on the top end given equal drivers.

Thats true, but the difference between GTO and vette are closer than Vette and fbody.

After driving both, my 05 gto auto and my friends 05 c6 auto I would have to say they feel about the same, infact he said he thought that the GTO felt faster off a 50 roll when I hit it. I'll have to run him and let you guy's know.
