First off, I don't think the shifter is what's rattling, but I've noticed a "sound"
shifting gears in my 05 M6. Occasionally (read the dreaded "intermittent"), I will get a rattle shifting from 2-3 or 4-5. It sounds crazy, but the best way to describe it, it sounds like a bolt or screw rolling around under the center console, like maybe on top of the shifter. I was hoping some of you more seasoned GTO owners
could tell me how to remove the shifter boot or the top of the console to see if it
could be something that simple and hopefully avoid a 2-3 hour wait at the dealership while a technician tries to track down an "intermittent" rattle, and then I get the old "unable to reproduce" line. Any help is appreciated.

It's not a prolonged noise, it just makes one little clack, occasionally.

Problem solved, hopefully. I went to the dealer today, they opened the console
and found a couple of loose screws in the air duct that runs to the rear seats. So far, so good.

Wow.... This is a case where there realy was a loose nut behind the wheel..... :hysterical: LOL.....

Its nice to see that some issues are simple......

Congrats on the easy fix.

Just for future reference for anybody who cares.... I had a rattle in the shift knob while accelerating and it turned out to be the shaft rubbing against the inside of the shifter. It is now a bulletin thing so if anyone has rattling they should go get it replaced.
