Checking stock airbox a pain in the @$$

I wanted to check my air filter today, it's nearing 12K miles, so I decide to get into the stock airbox. What a pain in the @$$!

Makes me miss unscrewing a wingnut and removing the top of the old air cleaner lid on the old cars and checking the filter in about 30 seconds. Like it does in my 76 El Camino.

It must have took me about 15 minutes to wrestle with our stupid stock airbox. They just have to have that coolant return line threaded right over the airbox. So I took it off. And the front screw holding the airbox lid down is obstructed by the plastic fan shroud so you can't get a straigt shot at the screw.

Oh and a word of advice. The filter was VERY clean. Just a few bugs in there to vacuum out. I might as well have left it for another year or up to 25K miles. So if you don't drive in dusty or dirty air I would say don't bother checking your filter until 25 to 30K miles.

All I can say is the next time I screw around with this it's getting yanked and a cold air induction kit is going in for EASY access to the filter. Technology is great but some things in the past were a lot easier to do. Thanks for reading my rant. :)

Just an FYI, I was checking out the airbox and noticed that there is a grommet on the bottom of the airbox. Its easy to push it down and pop it off inside the airbox. You need to take the pipe off the front of the airbox and reach in and make sure its seated.
