I just got my fist new car. '05 GTO with the 6 speed. I love it. That in turn has made me paranoid about keeping it in top shape. So I have a question and I hope you guys can help me.

The question is....

When driving at low speed like crossing speed bumps it seems that when I engage/disengage the clutch it makes more noise than I would guess it should. It mostly does it when I disengage the clutch. The noise it makes sounds alot like a sloppy input shaft or worn out pilot bearing. It has a distinct metal to metal "rattle" for just a split second, but sometimes it's fairly loud. I can hear it when driving past a row of garages for example.

So since my car has 300 miles on it and this is the first car I have had with the 6spd... is this normal? am I just paranoid? Should I get the dealer to look at it?

I have an 04 M6 and had the same noise. Dealer said one of the shields around the converter was rattling. It may not be the same noise you are talking about but it sounds like it might be. It came back later. Then it went away again on its own. Just a possibility. Have the dealer check it out anyways.

I just purchased a used 04 M6 with 12k miles and have noticed a similar issue when shifting at low speeds. It feels as if the something on the drive line is slightly lose, and there is a metal on metal "click" as I engage, or disengage the clutch. One of my friends also owns a 04 M6 and indicates that he does not have the same problem. I plan on driving his car some time soon to compare it against my own. I will try to post back with the result.
