With only 7k for the vehicle and upgrades, I would have to say that a fox body mustang would be the best bang for the buck. They are cheap, in every aspect of the word, but they can be very fast with little money. But really you are posting on the wrong forum for this kind of question.

Have to agree on the fox body Mustang, huge aftermarket, and they are dirt cheap.

Ugly though.

Its a gen 2, 1979.

Personally I think they are the best of the firebirds, you get the Original Pontiac made engines with gobs of power at 2000 RPM, the muscular 60-70s looks, conviences of power accesories (power windows in mine) and Air conditioning, yet don't get the nastyness of a thirdgen, (I like the gen 3s, but they are known for being problematic) or the technical drivetrain problems of the 3rd and 4th gens. (glass rear end, optispark, no engine space).

But there are some known issues with the Gen 2s, The windows have been known to be iffy (but frankly i'v had no problems with mine), finding a Pontiac engine in the later 70s is a hard as they were rare-er than the Oldmobile powered ones, and trust me you don't want those. You have the issues of a metal bodied car, thus rust is a problem, and the t-tops if you get them will most certainly leak.

But all said and done they are nice cars. I got mine for 3100 at a auction in Houston. If you can find one for a deal then it can be a badass ride, but don't be expecting much out of a stock late 70s one. I'v got some things done to mine, and it'l scare you if your not careful, but its not stock so.

There is no such thing as a 64 Charger.

1966 was the first year for the Charger unless my information is incorrect.

Also, when you say 3rd gen F-body you do mean the 1982-1992 generation correct?

For 7 grand you could land a decent older 4th gen and give yourself a good starting point for further modifications. Prices are dropping on the 4th gens I notice.

I hate to see someone buy some cr@pped out 2 thousand buck beater 3rd gen (let's just say an 86 for that matter) and drop 5K in blower mods on it. It runs for a week and then the engine is shot and your out a ride and 7K. Look around for a newer F-body (4th gen) or for that matter a much nicer 3rd gen from say 89 to 92 for that 7K. Then you have a much stronger basis to start with and when you get some money the mods won't be going to waste on a "beater".

Just my 2 cents. :)
