i have a 05 gto and it is an m6 and i have never driven an manual car before i have been driving it for about 3 weeks now and would like to know how to take off when racing someone and what rpms i should shift cuz i got a really bad 0-60 mph it was 5.5sec and it is supose to be 4.7sec?

Well, you want to shift where your car makes the most power, usually at the redline, you want to shift fast, but make sure that you don't miss the gear.

If your meaning launching, thats a different story.

Your same guy looking for information on racing a Corvette and I believe you’re talking about launching. There are other threads that address this issue on this forum, just look around.
On the other hand, since you’re so new to a standard transmission, I would suggest renting a standard car with lower horse power and practice driving/racing over a long weekend with the rental. First, this will save you unnecessary wear and tear on your GTO and secondly, you will learn how to shift more sufficiently and quicker with a car with lesser horse power. Pilots are not given an F16 first time out for a reason… Learn the basics first, and then have fun with your beast. Take it for what its worth, but I guarantee you will become a better driver starting off slow and easy.
