I'm getting prepped to order my 06 GTO when I get this disturbing letter from a dealer in Houston.
"Good news, I can order your new GTO when ever you are ready. The only major order change that I can see is Pontiac will not be offering the Hood Scoops in 06'. So what you can do is build an 05' on the Pontiac web site and forward me your desired options. I will then actually build the car on the computer and get you a price."
Tell me this guy doesn't know what he's doing or Pontiac hasn't flipped their everloving minds!
I need to know before I proceed. I don't remember reading that little tid-bit anywhere on the change list for '06.

This guy doesn't know what he is doing. Scoops are still there on the '06s.

The guy must be new. This is the reply I got from him after questioning the scoops availability.
"The reason I cannot add the scoops to the order is, that they are standard for 06' I just misread the update."
Mut have been Monday for him. <_<
Back on track... B)

I believe this problem may stem from the GM Online Ordering Guide which accidentally says in an update that hood scoops are deleted. What is meant to say, I believe is that the Hood Scoop DELETE option is cancelled or deleted. From this I take it that it is not possible to get a hood scoop delete 06 like you could in 05.
Hope that helps. I'll try to post this mistaken update found on the online ordering guide. The guide is constantly riddled with innaccuracies and mistakes. Sounds like GM needs to hire me to keep it straight. ;)

Firstly in the Standard Equipment Section it lists Hood Scoops as standard.
Here is the "mistake". It should read Hood Scoop Delete option
Updates for GTO
Week of 6/27/2005
Effective 6/27/2005, the following changes will be made to the Vehicle Order Guide:
* Exterior section-(BZJ) Hood scoop, removed entry entirely.
So anyone wanting the "flat" hood for 06 is outta luck. I'm sure this was a popular option.

This is an outstanding example of one of my biggest gripes with salespersons today.
When I was younger, I used to buy things at stores where the sales people knew their products. I expected to pay a little more for the product and the advice was often worth the little extra.
But today, there isn't a salesperson in 100 that knows his/her product! They come from selling vacuum cleaners to the car showroom and don't know a Ford from a Chevy. There is no one these days who takes a brochure home and actually learns what options are available, what the specs are, and what the technical jargon means on his/her own time. And what the he11 do they do while sitting there waiting for the next customer? Beats me, but it sure isn't learning their product line.
Wanna prove it? Go to a local Ford, GM or (you name it) dealer and ask them to compare one of their showfloor models to another one you know is a close competitor. Try a Ford dealer's GT knowledge against a GTO for a good laugh (chuckle to yourself, please, not out loud).
I buy my cars from the same salesman at the same dealership since about 1992. He's an old pro, but he's not a "car nut" or a "gear head". He learns stuff from me every time I go in to bug him. You gotta do your own research these days.

Amen to that!!! Our military sales reps are just as bad. For example, most of our reps are either newly retired military or guys that just seperated from the service that are not ready to leave the country yet. If you work for AAFES (Army Air Force Exchange Services) car sales, you get to remain in country for as long as you are working. Now, most of these individuals have Korean wives that do not EVER wish to leave, so the guys sells cars until he can find something a little more lucrative.
These guys have no passion for cars nor do they care about the consumer. It's only about making a commission from someone. A vast majority of them do not know what the options are. Hell, most of the time, they do not even the price of the vehicles. I once inquired about the 300C. His reply, "It's got a Hemi!" and it won car of the year. I mentioned the GTO to one sales rep. He did not even know it came back.

Speaking of car salespeople, if you haven't read this, it's worth reading...It's hilarious yet has a lot of truth in it.
