: Rear Deck Speakers
Silver Goat 08-14-2005, 02:22 PM The '98 Mustang which I drove before buying the GTO had the factory standard 80 watt audio system w/4 speakers which sounded as good, if not better, than the 200 watt Blaupunkt system on the GTO. The system doesn't have adequate low end or high end response, even with booster settings at maximum, particularly low end.
Has anyone replaced just the rear deck speakers with upgraded woofers? If so, what subwoofers did you install, and how much low end improvement did you get? Did you also install enclosures?
If worth it, I would like to replace them, not adding any additional amplification, and without changing any other speakers in the system. I am more concerned with improving the low end response now and addressing the high end in the future.
The subwoofers that I am considering are these:

Any results with changing just these speakers will be appreciated.
TheJizzer 08-14-2005, 02:56 PM Have you done all the stereo "free" mods yet?
lordgear 08-14-2005, 02:59 PM [QUOTE]"stereo "free" mods "
What is that?
Silver Goat 08-14-2005, 04:37 PM I am not aware of free mods being available.
Could you provide the details?
Thanks!
formula79 08-14-2005, 05:39 PM Free mods? You mean turning the amp up?

Hey, Turkey, why don't you give this (http://www.ls1gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8150) a shot?
Nocturn 08-15-2005, 05:12 AM Heh, your link pointed to the wrong site, so I fixed it. :D
The link above should give you all the info you need. Basically the cars amp is in the trunk, and you can turn up the gain on the amp to make it louder, but there is also some sound degradation when turned all the way up, so you may not want to max it out.
Silver Goat 08-15-2005, 08:31 AM Thanks guys! Increased the amplifier gain by 3/4 of that available, and the bass is much improved.
Even though not required, I removed the amplifier to see what I was doing.
Took 5-10 minutes and well worth the effort!

Actually, the link was correct. I thought the pictures were useful. I think you'd be better off concentrating on making your site better than competing sites instead of trying to hide the existence of other GTO sites from your members. People will find the others, and this kind of policy will only serve to drive people away from here. :D
I've posted on a lot of message boards, but this is the first time I've run into this. The other GTO site from my original link doesn't censor its boards regarding other GTO sites. Do a search for newagegto.com over there, and you'll get all kinds of hits.
Nocturn 08-15-2005, 04:14 PM I don't censor the board, but when theres a perfectly good thread on this site there is no need to point them to another.
I know of many forums that will request members to remove links or signatures that show they belong to a competing forum, Cobaltss.net vs. cobaltss.com, and so on.
Theres only so much I can do as a moderator and not an admin, so I do what I can to make the site better, one of the things is to keep relevant information on the board. Another is to keep a user here when I can. I rememberd there was a thread on the topic from a while back, it just wasn't pinned, it may not be a direct how to, but most who have read it have been able pull it off without any problems.
no biggy :)
TheJizzer 08-18-2005, 07:52 PM Also 2 other things to do...
when the car starts up go into your set up menus. Turn off the distortion limit
And DO NOT USE the EQ presets -- turn off the EQ and set the Bass/Treble yourself.
Mine sounds 100% better after these 3 things...no money spent.
Not saying that a aftermarket system would not sound better but for free....
