Driving by the local dealer yesterday as they were unloading an Impulse blue GTO with 18's. It was gone today when I went to look at it. They usually have about 6 GTO's on the lot at any given time but this is the first Impulse blue I have ever seen on a lot or on the road. I was set on silver but may change my mind after the quick look I got of the blue. Is this a rare color?

No, its one of the most popular and thus why it was snatched up, its made in all three model years, and is usually the third or fourth most popular color behind red black, and silver.

I love Impulse Blue with the blue leather. May very well be the car I end up getting;)

It's the color(when I first saw it) that made me pull the trigger! I looked at a couple other colors before and I really didn't get excited, but that impulse blue metallic with the two tone blue interior, it made me lite-headed. Even a couple of friends of mine, were not impressed by the new GTO(thought the new Rustang was cool), until they saw the impulse blue with the SAP and said,"Now that is what the GTO should look like." Mine is an IBM. Love it. Most of the comments have been from people who love the blue leather interior.

My first new car was an "Electric Blue" 70 Plymouth GTX. White vinyl top with white vinyl interior. One pretty car. 440-4bbl A3 (kicked myself for not getting the M4, though). Color held up pretty well, actually, and the car was pretty quick off the line. Next was a Navy Blue Saab 99EMS M4. I used good wax on it, but the harsh western Kansas sun began to fade the color toward the end.

As a chemist, I know that blue is one of the least stable colors, chemically. There are few natural blue pigments (think of blue in nature and you won't find much outside of a few flowers) and blue is not a good paint color for durability. Also, metallic paint is not good because of the millions of tiny mica chips bonded into the color coat that provide separation interfaces between the paint and the chips.

So, plain (non-metallic) colors are potentially longer lived. Black is too hot where I live in the summer time. Wife hates white (don't know why), so the other non-metallic color available is usually red. My 82 Buick was red, my 89 Olds was red, my 93 GrandAm was red, my 96 TransAm was red. Aarrgghh! Time for a change.

Bought a navy blue GTP in 01 for the wife (her color pick). It's still holding up OK with some good wax. Car runs darn good, by the way, for 240HP rating.

When I went into the dealer to look at the 04's, I told them I wasn't ready to trade, but I liked the IBM. I think they "knew" I'd bite on the 05, so they pre-ordered one in Impulse Blue, blue leather, M6. Called me at work before the thing touched ground off the transport. I looked it over with all the shipping junk on it, turned down a test drive and walked away...didn't say a word. I knew I'd buy it. Thought about it for about 2 hours and called to tell them to pull the keys. Darn thing is just plain beautiful, and the interior is very distinctive. Lots of Goats with red and black leather which is nice and which wouldn't work as well with blue, so blue wins for me. I just hope I can keep the exterior from oxidizing out in the hot sun where I have to park while at work.

Now if I can just find a source of 2.5L chrome badges for the right deck lid ...... :)

Went by today and it was sitting out front, they must have had it in the building. I didn't think I would like the blue interior but it looks much better than in the pictures. This car seemed to have a lot of scratches or something on the paint. Man, I like those 18 inch wheels. Thought I was set on silver!

Question for everyone with the Impulse blue, how hard is this color to keep looking good? One of my big reasons for silver is it doesn't show scratches and swirl marks as easy.

I like all the colors offered for the '05 GTO but got silver for several reasons.

I traded in a silver '98 Mustang on which the paint still looked new and shiny in spite of having to stay outside most of its life. That tells me that silver is a durable color. I only waxed it about twice a year.

Lighter colors including silver don't show dirt as much as darker colors. And, as you pointed out, silver doesn't show scratches and swirl marks as much as some other colors.

Silver seems to highlight the curves, sharp angles, and etc. of the sheet metal more than darker colors do.

Finally, I just like silver on any car. It's a conservative color that doesn't get old....and that doesn't attract as much attention as some other colors do (which can be a good thing!).

One other thing I forgot to mention in my last reply.....Apparently, silver is an easy color to match in the unfortunate event of sheet metal damage.

Someone backed into the Mustang in a parking lot, leaving a small dent in the left rear quarter panel. After repair I couldn't tell whether the entire quarter panel had been repainted or just a small area of it.....The paint match was perfect and remained so after about 3 years when I traded it.

Before that experience, my thought was that silver would be one of the colors that would be harder to match.

Actually, IB is surprisingly resistent to showing road grime. I've had mine since Feb 7 (now 9,000+ miles) and it's been through several sloppy runs back and forth to work. The color seems to be light enough not to show that beige dirt color, although it's never really been "dirty". Perhaps the metallic paint reflection also helps scatter light so dirt doesn't show as easily.

I wash mine every time it gets the slightest bit dirty. Currently I'm using Zip Wax auto soap and a soft, very clean lamb's wool mitt. Never, EVER take mine through any kind of power car wash. Brushes scratch (I don't care what anyone says), and high pressure water can cause problems with emblems and seals. I've never had problems with scratches by doing that.

The sad truth about colors is that darker colors show dirt, lighter colors don't, but, IMHO, those colors that do NOT show dirt do not look much better clean or dirty, while any car that shows dirt easily will look much sharper when it's really clean. I envy you guys that can keep black clean. I'm not a silver lover for the above reasons, but to each his own. Depends on how easily and how often you can clean her up.

Yeah I've gotten a glance at the impulse blue and it looked pretty sharp. Since I currently drive a silver camaro, I was thinking about a change of colors and this is one of the colors I've really fallen in love with. BTW has anybody seen a yellow-jacket color? These seem pretty rare to me, as this is one of the colors I've never seen before. Somebody told me there was a used one for sale at some dealership close to where I work, but I haven't gotten to see it yet, so it might be sold for all I know.

I saw a lot of Goats this weekend. In highlands Ranch I had a good conversation with an 04 Yellow Jacket at a stop light. I think I saw usafagoat on Lincoln between I-25 and Parker Road, it was a Midnight Blue 05 with a licence plate cover, was around 4pm-ish, and it was heading East, I was going West. I saw a red 05 with an sap kit near Park Meadows mall. And I saw my usual Barbados Blue 04 going home and the Black 04 someone at work has. 5 Goats in one weekend! :dribble: I have barely seen more than I can count on one hand up until this weekend.

Oh, and I drive and Impulse Metallic Blue. It was the first one I have found on a lot. When I walked out the door with it, another guy was walking in the door to start the paper work on it. I think it was on the lot for a grand total of two days.

Local dealer here in S.C. has 2 yellow GTO's. I'm not a big fan of yellow but it looks good on these cars.

Oh ok.. I guess it's just a matter of chance then. I also still haven't had the oppurtunity to look at a purple one, which I'm sure would definitely be a unique looking color to say the least B)

My Impulse Blue GTO (2004) is the only Impulse Blue I've ever seen. That includes my trip to Florida this past week. The few GTO's I do see around town are red, black and silver. I really wanted the blue leather, but I got mine late and couldn't find that combination with a six-speed. I also really liked the Barbados Blue, but again, only automatic equipped GTO's were left around.
