So my '05 sustained its first cruel injustice the other day. I was on my way to work when I saw a gravel hauler coming the opposite direction as me on a 2 lane road. Not normally a big deal, but as soon as we are about nose to nose, I see one of his rear tires kick up a rock the size of a golf ball, which landed on the roof of my car about 2 inches above the windshield with that sickening sheet metal thwack that makes car enthusiasts cringe. It was one of those things where I saw it happening but couldn't do anything about it except say "son of a @#$*%". I finished the drive to work and got out to see a nice dent and the paint scratched off down to the sheet metal. Then all the thoughts of the randomness and perfectness of the situation started to hit me because if I were going one mile an hour slower, it would have hit my windshield which would have been easy to get fixed. If I were going one mile an hour faster, it would have missed me all together. If the angle were different, the release time of the rock , the speed of the rock, if I had left my driveway 2 seconds later or 2 seconds earlier.....they all had to be perfect, and sadly, they all were. :(
So anybody have any ideas on the best way to get this fixed? I think my insurance covers it, but I'm not sure.

Yes I believe this should be the case, but you'd also have to know for sure what company the truck worked for so you could call them to complain about it. If you caught at least that much, I'd be calling somebody ASAP and make em get on it.

My sister's car got beat senseless by gravel from a dump truck for a concrete company. She turned around and while she couldn't get a plate she saw the company name on the side of the truck when it turned off. She had to go to court and since she was lucky enough to work nights she didn't have to take a day off so it didn't cost her a thing to get her car fixed. Just be forwarned that if that trucks insurance company is different from yours, without a plate number the other insurance company will most likely fight it so you will need to prove they had a vehicle in the area at the time and be ready to accurately describe the vehicle. I'd write down everything you can remember right now so you don't forget anything later.

Sorry guy's, take it from a former truck driver. Once the rock or anything that comes from the truck hits the ground, its considered a road hazard, and the co. is not responsible. A truck, with rocks or other debri constantly falling off is another matter. A single rock picked up by a truck, I feel for you :( , but even if you had pictures, it would not have helped.

I have had nearly your exact experience. Instead the rock hit my hood instead.
Long story short, it was covered under my Comprehensive on my State Farm insurance. I paid nothing for the repair, bodywork and a repaint of my hood. Came out to be just under 500 bucks for the repair. If it was over 700 bucks then my rates would have went up, anything under and no change to my rates. Hopefully yours will be of similar cost and not more.
So other than the inconvenience of not having my car for about 4 days and the fuel it cost to drive there and back, it cost me nothing. Oh and that nagging thought that my hood is no longer "virgin" anymore.
Contact insurance and good luck. I can definitely empathize with you. B)

I really screwed up the roof of a silverado in a parking garage and it was about 500 dollars to fix, outof my own pocket of course.
