Ok, I go to the dealership I bought the car from to get my passenger seat looked at/fixed. The seat issue is no big deal, but I knew I'd be waiting on part(s) and have to take it back.
Anyways, while I'm there I ask the service manager about how long can you really go between oil changes. (I got the car end of June-now with 5300 miles and no oil indicator). Without answering the question he says since my first oil change is free, let's do it now. Sounds good to me so I tell him to go ahead. An hour later they pull it around, tell me my new seat frame has been ordered and I'm all oiled up.
On the way back to the car I read my receipt - Pennzoil? Pennzoil?!? I march back the the service manager and ask him about the change up. I also discover they used conventional oil no less. I know what came in the engine and say so, but he says the only difference between the two is the price. ($60 for Mobil 1) Now the manager gets on the phone to someone (at my insistance) to see if they used the right stuff, and if he really called someone they told him to say it was alright. :bs: Unconvinced, I call over the salesman I bought the car from who convinces him to at least put synthetic in, which they did. That got me out the door, but I've had nagging doubts since then and looked up the data sheet for the oil they used. The manual says to get oil meeting "GM Standard GM4718M". What they put in meets standard "GM4718" - no "M". Does the "M" matter one way or another? Is our resident chemist out there?
