Well, i just got my 2005 GTO yesterday, and i have a major problem with the tranny. i was getting on the freeway, and steped on the gas so i wouldnt get ran over by a semi. but the car didnt downshift (its an auto by the way), it just went to full throttle in whatever gear it was in, and then all of a sudden downshifted quite a bit later than it should have (my foot was on the floor mind you), and then went about its business like normal.
well, later on today, it seems to be driving funny and then the CEL came on. after looking at the revs i noticed the tranny was in D, but in 3rd gear and not 4th like it should have been for cruising. when i exited the freeway, i notice it doesnt downshift from a stop (never went to first), it just took off in 3rd gear. if you try and shift it manually, it doesnt go to first, but will go to second and third.
does anyone have any input? i plan on taking it too the dealership tomorrow, but im wondering if someone else has had this problem, or knows what it might be?

Haven't heard of this problem on an '05 yet. Taking it into the dealer sounds like the correct first thing to do.

I'll let our technical members hazard a guess to the actual problem. Hope it is cured soon. :(

The PCM most likely detected a trans problem and went into "limp mode" for a shifting algorithm. It's under warranty, let the dealer take care of it. I don't want to hazard a guess with the multitude of potential causes for the symptoms you describe unless I can check it out personally.

well, i took it in, they cleared out the trouble codes and called it good. i drove it home and it seemed fine. i got in it a few min later to take car of some paperwork on base, and the CEL came on again and it was in third gear again. so i took it back. now theyre looking at it to see whats wrong (again). the tech is thinking it has to do with the ignition switch. he said that some of the wires run through there, and that it might be faulty, or theres a bad wire somewhere. either way, i dont think im getting my car back today.

well, its fixed now. i guess they found that the main power wire for the tranny, going into the fuze box was loose. im glad to hear the tranny wasnt blown after only 80 miles
