I have been working a deal on a 2005 6-speed and I am very close to picking it up. I am not super happy with the way they are treating me on my trade. I am going to throw down the hammer tomorrow and see if I can make it work. I think there is room in the deal.
I did have a couple of questions:
1.) I know they can go below the red tag price. The question is how far?
2.) I am driving from Texas to Georgia on Wednesday for the holidaze. If I get the GTO, this might not be the best way to break it in. Although, I have heard that modern engines do not require the same break in procedures as some of the older ones?
Hope it all works out. Looking forward to the possibility of joining the Goat community!

Just a thought...I have been watching the GTO's in my area disappear in the last month. Subsequently, I know they are selling somewhere. If you want to latch onto an '05, I would recommend not hesitating too long. I did not feel that I got what I should have for my trade-in, but I am oh so happy with my GTO that I had amost forgotten about about my trade-in. As an aside, you could wait and hope to hook onto an '06.
If you are going to GA to get the car, maybe you would consider a used one located in Jacksonvile, FL. I saw that there is someone selling a used '05 for much less than the price of new.

I'm not so sure on that one. Remember the Red Tag price is set by GM, a dealer will not lose money on a deal. They are probably getting holdback at best on the Red Tag. What you might be able to do is ask if they have the 500 dollar certificates that GM gives the dealers to seal the deal if someone is driving a hard bargain. I've even heard dealers giving 2 of these 500 dollar certificates to close a deal. (I think that is the most they are allowed by GM.) They may not have any of these though. If you can't drive them down on the price try to make up for it on the extended warantee thrown in for free. Or free oil changes for the first 3years/36K miles. They may bend on those.
My brother who works at a dealership is stunned by everyone thinking they can get the price below Red Tag, and a few months ago below the Employee Pricing.
They can only go so low before they make nothing on the deal. And with the 05's nearly gone they might not feel the need to deal if they can hold out for someone else coming along.

Got my Goat about 4 months ago under the employee discount. Timing might have been better then because I got my '05 Midnight Blue A4 for $30,345 and almost 2 grand above Kelly for my trade. Dealer even transfered the car from another dealership - which means he gave up his hold-back from GM. Mine was a "business partner" deal because my company is a vendor of the dealership.
Buddy of mine was looking this weekend and couldn't come close to my deal so it seems dealers are tightening up. I've also noticed a lot more Goats on the road lately - had to put an '04 out of his pain yesterday afternoon - gotta love those extra 50 ponies!

Silver 6-speed with black leather. I was down to this and a cherry 03 Cobra Vert with 6700 miles on it. It was a tough decision.
My old SS would be glad I went with the General!
