: Fog Lamp Replacement

After visiting different auto parts stores (NAPA, AutoZone, Advance Auto, O'Reilly) it would appear that the only place to get a replacement bulb for the fog lamp is to visit the dealership. The factory lamp is a Phillips 9040 (12v, 40w). AutoZone had a Sylvania 9040, but it was a 35w and had a very slight difference in casing. I think it may have worked, but I'm very particular with my GTO and I want nothing but the best. Has anyone here replaced a fog lamp yet? If so, where did you buy the replacement?

I ordered fog lamp bulbs from a local dealership. They are actually cheaper than all of the parts stroes I went to on Monday.

One more thing on this subject. Advance Auto's computer system showed the bulb replacement as part number H11 (Sylvania). However, that is not the correct replacement part. AutoZone also shows this part number.

Will the AutoZone part not work as a replacement? Someone had mentioned a change in the oil filters for the '05's. They stated that the filter that comes from the factory is no longer made and that even the owner's manual lists the new oil filter as replacement. I guess what I am trying to say is that if I were to pull off the stock filter and compare the number with what AutoZone had listed, they would not coincide even though the AutoZone listed oil filter would be the correct application. I do not want you to interpret this as me saying that the replacement bulb AutoZone had listed was correct. I am just saying that I am really confused. ;)

P.S. I found another GTO. It appeared to be a 2004 Quicksilver and was parked over at one of the clinics on Suma. I just had to tell someone. :)

Well, I went to Advance Auto and bought a pair of bulbs. THe person at the store looked it up on the computer and pulled the bulbs for me. It looked very similar. I got home took out the burnt out bulb then noticed the contacts had dfferent spacing. Kind of like trying to put a square ped in a round hole.

Okay guys. Not sure if this helping anyone out, but I picked up the bulbs this afternoon. They are exact replacements. Phillips 9040 (12v, 40w). According to the packaging the bulb is made in Australia. The best part is that they were actually a few bucks cheaper than Advance Auto.

So, when you need to replace a fog light bulb, I suggest going directly to the dealer. That is, of course, unless you intend to upgrade to higher intensity lamps.
