It's been so hot and humid I've been wondering about the density altitude of the air in my area. I can feel the performance being drained away from the Goat as timing gets pulled with high IAT's.

If you like to fool around with your numbers you can calculate the DA of your area. All you need is elevation, temperature, dew point and barometic pressure in inches. Here today at noon at an elevation of 500 feet with a 91 degree air temp., 30.08 pressure, and a dew point of 72 the DA is way up to 2800 plus feet!!!

Here's the link if you'd like to mess around with it.

Let's hear those DA's! :)

As a follow up there are also some HP correction for altitude and some other conversion stuff. You just might want to stay away from the "Spiritual Life" stuff. This guys seems to be out there a bit.

At 7:21 PM:

Elevation: 22 ft
Air Temp: 89 F
Barometric Pressure: 30.03 inHg
Dew Point: 71 F

*Density Altitude = 2140 ft (0.405 miles)

Yikes! That sucks more than I knew. At least it is not 2800 ft! :P

*Density altitude is defined as the altitude in the International Standard Atmosphere that has the same air density as the air being evaluated.

Also interesting is the HP conversion. I punched in those numbers and on a stock 350 HP LS1 you are already down 12 HP with a DA of 2800 feet. Then factor in all the timing being pulled out due the the over-aggressive stock IAT tables and a stock LS1 engine is probably down 40 to 50 flywheel horsepower in this warm soupy air. :(
