I took delivery of my 06' GTO on 6-6-06( <<<< i guess i was doomed from the start). Within 2 weeks i was in the shop with 2 blown front struts. It started out as a small pop as i was making a right hand turn. then any turn. Then i pulled into my driveway or work one day and i would here clunk-clunck as each wheel went over slightest bump. I figured i would take it to the dealer the next day except i noticed several small oil puddles in my garage around where the wheels would normally be. i immediately took it into the shop and found 2 blown struts (front). Nobody can explain why this happened. They thought maybe the vehicle was strapped down to tight on the hauler and they finally blew the seals. The story gets better. They orderd new struts and they were the wrong ones. the ABS brackets were welded on differently than mine. They finally located the right strut but only (1) available in entire country. They contacted GM and still no strut. They were not sure when they could get another one. SO THEY TOOK 2 NEW STRUTS OFF ANOTHER GTO IN THE LOT WITH only 20 MILES ON IT. Put those struts on my car and would wait for the struts on order to come in and put them onto the new car from the lot. Well I had my car back for a week now and guess what? History is repeating itself. As i write my car sits back in the shop with 2 blown front struts AGAIN. And to boot, the struts ordered 2 weeks ago are still not in. The service manager also told me another '06 GTO came in this week with 2 blown front struts. ANYONE ELSE with front suspension problems? I am wondering if a rash of bad struts were manufactured around the time my car was completed. I think on the dataplate under the hood it said my car was completed March 2006. I would have to double check that it indeed is March but if memory serves me right that is the date. Anyway, if anyone else experiencing this, i truely feel for you. If anyone heres anything PLEASE let me know.

It seems like I just read this saga yesterday...kinda deja vu. You certainly are not the only person to have experienced the problem with the struts. What is your date of manufacture? My memory may not be correct, but I seem to recall a 02/06 manufacture date associated with at least one other GTO that experienced the very same thing. Best of luck getting this issue sorted out.

I have not experienced this problem . It does sound like a bad batch of struts .
Keep the faith .I know its inconvienent but at least it just struts. Struts are easily replaced and are not likely to be symptomatic of a larger problem. Its rediculous that there are no replacements available but this could be due to the fact that theres a bad batch going around and this has temporarily depleted thier stock of replacement or even the replacements may be suspect themselves. Sometimes motor companies wont issue a recall of vehicles because they know they just dont have the volume of replacements needed to do it.
hopefully youll be back on the road asap . I also hope the dealership has issued you a temporary replacement vehicle in the meantime.

Was the oil you saw on the ground directly behind the tire? I noticed oil behind my driver side front tire before my front suspension trouble as well, though my control link problem wouldn't have any oil leakage issues. I did notice some oil in the body frame rail just in front of the drivers door. I hope your issues are resolved quickly. Keep us posted on the progress.

i'm really not sure the exact oil location because i did not notice the oil until i was coming back in the garage. there were 3 seperate spots in the location of where my right wheel would normally set and also the left wheel. could have been on inner side of wheel or behind it.

mine is a o6 bought on july 3 o6 I drove it 30 minuets and the left front strut blew . I got the car home and was standing there checking out the wife noticed a puddel of oil under the car, so I called the dealer they said bring it back and they would fix it with no problems !YEA RIGHT! So they called back a couple days said strut is on national backorder said they would take a shock off new 1 on the lot ,they had 2 2005's on the lot with 6000 miles on them ,they thought they were gonna put some used junk on my ride i said i'd wait.Friday they call outta the blue and say its done ,get it home and noticed a 1/4 inch groove in the side of the tire because the alignment was so bad it was rubbin the strut,so another weekend without my new ride!so i take it back AGAIN on monday told them a few choice things they had 2 buy me a new tire ,re-alighn and got it back yesterday ,so far so good ,but we'll see!!I took delivery of my 06' GTO on 6-6-06( <<<< i guess i was doomed from the start). Just got my car back today. Guess what? Both front struts blown. My car has been in the shop since June 26. The dealer said that GM knows about the problems with struts installed on cars manufactured in Feb 06 and is working to remedy the situation. I haven't heard of any recall notices yet. My dealer had to rob parts off of another goat on their lot due to the national backorder. Very poor replacement part stockpile. I'm hoping that my front end troubles are over. Time will tell. Good luck to you.

The only bad thing about taking the from another GTO on the lot is that those may be bad as well. That is what they did with mine the first time they blew out. I had the new/used struts off the "lot" GTO (which had 20 miles) for a week and they blew out again. My car is still in the shop cause they are waiting on some bushings that were destroyed from all the oil leaking out of struts and GM is telling them they can't get them until beginning of august. So they are once again robbing the bushings out of the "lot" GTO because they are SUPPOSE to be still good. What a mess? We need to file a huge complaint somehow.

Well I guess I am the next victim. I noticed a puddle of oil just behind my front passenger side tire this morning :(

Have not noticed any noise or problems. I guess I need to take it in and not drive it today.

This sucks

It is oil correct? Make sure it's not just water draining out from the AC. That's where my condensation ends up on my garage floor. Sorry if it's the strut oil. :(

I know I am a little late to this party, but I am curious if the folks who have had trouble with their early '06 build cars have gotten things sorted out successfully?

Thanks!

At lest if I go shopping for a used '06 I will know what to listen and look for.

Good 2 go

I think I'd try some after market bits if I were experiencing this problem.

defintly, whats the point if GM is taking this long to get the replacement parts, might as well do better and a cheaper price and less time to install
