I was taking a look at the GTO Headers & Mid-Pipes (http://marylandspeed.com/index.php?cPath=58_153) section at MarylandSpeed.com (http://www.marylandspeed.com/) and ran across something that I do not understand. Apparently SLP has a Headers package that includes: headers, high flow cats, and downpipes. Looking at the picture, the high flow cats appear similar to my Kooks catted mid-pipes. My question is: What are downpipes? Are they simply connection pipes that are downstream of the high flow cats?

typically downpipes are the pipes that come just after the header/exhaust manifold . Im thinking they get the name from typical factory exh. manifolds which need to have a pipe connection leading down then back.it looks like the picture shows some straight pipes those would be the down pipes which are intermediate of headers and catted pipes in this case.

I think that's the 04 kit you are looking at. I think the downpipes are what the 04 has in place of the x-pipe.

It was the '04 kit at which I was looking. Since my experience lies with the Kooks long tube headers, I am a bit more famliar with them. If I recall correctly, the headers themselves are the same for the '04, '05, and '06. The difference being the midpipes (catted and offroad) for the '04, versus the '05 and '06. Perhaps that I why I was a little confused when looking at the SLP package.

Yeah, the 04 is a little different...the 05+ SLP headers are a bit more popular. They all are a bet harder to come by though as SLP can't keep up with demand.

I have the SLP headers with cats and catback LM1 system on my 06 GTO.
I got them from Maryland Speed. He's a really nice guy. If you call him , he can tell you if he has them in stock, there was a delay on the headers from SLP.
here is a video clip of what they sound like.

I have grown to like SLP's headers. They are not a true full length design, but they fit well and make good power. Just remember to get the mid pipes welded.
