: What's up with all the Monaro Conversions?

Not that I have anything against it...but I am just curious.

I bought my GTO because it is an awesome value for the dollar, but also because of the performance tradition of the GTO. It is almost something I am proud of. I could never see tearing my new $30K car apart, only to put hard to find/expensive parts on it that will make look like the Austrailian version that no one really knows of over here or cares about.

I can imagine there is the "different" factor..but other than that I just don't get it. I have seen some really nice Monaro conversions, including the guy here. I am just wondering what make you want to make such a drastic change to the car that does not really effect performance or anything.

Again..not talking down or making fun...just trying to understand.

hate to say it but if you look at the holden manaro by HSV, that car looks awesome, the color tones, body looks, interior etc. its hard to pass up

I would venture to guess that most just like the different look and want to have a ride that is even more "unique". I'm a Pontiac guy myself and won't ever de-Pontiac it. :)

first thanks for the complement, and second the the real reason i did mine is because i used to live there and grew up with them, third i love the faces of people when i drive by, second the cars really never were pontiacs, they were taken from the Left hand drive molds of the Kuweti Chevy Lumina SS, dont get me wrong i love the Pontiac GTO.

With as few GTO's as there out there prowling the streets, a Monaro converted GTO is that much more rare. That is cool. Overall, I think that the conversion looks cool, but is not for me because I wear my GTO badge with honor. This is definitely due to the fact that my first baby was what it was. I have been a Pontiac guy for a number of years.

A lot of GTO owners purchased their GTO because they did not want a car like everyone else's. Some of those owners have decided to take it a step further. In my mind, we are all part of the same family. We certainly have something special in what we have decided to drive.

personally i like the look of the Monaro/HSV conversions over the looks of our GTO, they are far more aggressive and here in the states, very unique. the second reason for me is that i've never really been a fan of GM's north american products, but i just absolutely love Holden.

It's a shame, but Holden is what Pontiac could be if the beancounters didn't think Pontiac needed G5's, Torrents and Montanas. :(

Seems like more than that. Maybe I just notice them more since they stick out.
