Below is the first rendering GM issued of the GTO. What were you thoughts of it at the time, and what are they now.
When it came out, I thought it would be a home run for GM because of the value to performance quotent.
Looking back, the drawing looks really bland.

Looks pretty much just like the '04s. For the life of me, I still can't understand why they didn't get Ram Air. Bout the only thing the hood on an '04 is good for is sled riding.

Like most renderings they always look a little longer and sleeker than the real deal.
Frankly though who cares anyway, I love my GTO and nobody can take that feeling away, NOBODY!!! :D

Great pic. I thought it looked more "sleeper" than "bland".

i bought mine yesterday, only a few hours ago, actually. i liked the car ever since i saw it from the very beginning. it's a great looking coupe. and it drives insanely beautifully. i never understood what others' were quite expecting for the car to be, as if it needed to apologize for itself. why can't others just accept the car for what it is? it's not the 1960s anymore. and i find no sin in a new direction.
some manufacturers are bringing back the old cars with faithful updates of the original body styles, such as the Mustang, the soon-to-be-released new Camaro and Challenger, etc. and i know this is what many fans of the older goats were probably expecting.
but if such a thing is not the new direction of an old nameplate, then that must be accepeted or not. for those whom are disappointed with the Monaro's body and chassis carried over to the GTO, there are the niche fans of the new GTO that overlook the pessimism and simply enjoy the GTO for what it has evolved into --with the ultimate adoration being achieved when the GTO is actually driven. it's just an awesome automobile.
