Well, not JUST today, I have been struggling with it for the past month or so. lol. I bought it one piece at a time basically and have been struggling with software for about 2 weeks now. It is the first machine I have ever built by myself. I have THE dumbest luck with computers it would seem. The XP software that I had that I had intended to install was damaged, apparently, and it would NOT cooperate. I was about ready to take it outside and run over it with my pickup. LMFAO! Anyway, I found an old DELL OEM recovery disk that I had with a laptop that was issued to be by my old company, which I no longer have. I thought to myself, there is NO way this is going to work because it says on it "for use on Dell machines ONLY". So I stick it in there and low and behold it worked....cept it gave me 30 days to register. I won't tell ya'll what I did after that. LMFAO! I love the internet. And junk cars.

I built my first a couple years ago, great satisfaction knowing you saved anywhere from 100-1000 dollars by building it yourself.

Yeah, I actually saved about $1000 on this one.

In the olden days, it was hard to save any money building one's own computer. This is because the folks who build computers for a living end up getting parts for less than we would because they buy in bulk. However, when one can find some of the deals being offered on computer hardware these days, I do not find it difficult to believe that one could save some money building their own computer. With this said, I would be interested to know where you ended up saving $1,000. If I could do the same, I might consider building another desktop computer to be used as a Linux server.

Where I saved the most cash is on software. I can't really say where I got my software, :D but I have Win XP Pro SP2, MS Office 2000 (full version) and MS Mappoint 2004. That software just by itself would cost nearly a grand. I have about $490 tied up in the machine itself (including the keyboard and mouse). It's really not that special. AMD Athlon 64 (2 gig), 512mb ram and an 80gig hard drive with a DVD/CD RW combo drive, 3.5'' floppy and flash card reader.
