: Tire Rack, anyone had problems with them?

I recently ordered a replacement tire from them for the GTP. It came FedEx and about 5 minutes after they dropped it off I noticed the tire had a flat spot and bulge in the sidewall. Oops too late, yep I should have checked it more thoroughly.

Problem is they are taking their sweet time to come pick up the tire and issue a refund since the tire was out of stock the same day I received it. Well now the tire is back in stock and they won't exchange it for a new one. I get some rigamarole about it needs 8 buisness days for an "investigation" by FedEx. Well today is day 7. I'm starting to wonder if they are trying to screw me. I'll know by early next week.

So your thoughts on TireRack? I've ordered from DiscountTire.com and had no problems and was very pleased. If TR doesn't make this right I'll give them hell and tell them I'll take my buisness to DT. I would have liked to in the first place but DT didn't have the Goodyear tire I was looking for :(

Tire Rack is a rock solid company, good products at decent prices.

Couple of questions

What do you mean it had a flat stop and a bulge?

What tires, What Size, What Price?

They sent you a used tire? I've bought several sets of tires from them, never had a problem, ever. I HAVE however had problems with Fedex. Perhaps some Fedex employees who-do'd ya.

The problem with using discount tire outlets is that the specifications that they give the manufacture as to what tire tolerances they will accept is lower then the OEM and other outlets like Sears that do not give as low a discount price. I know cause I set up the uniformity testing machines for a major tire manufacturer when we automated their plants. So you may or may not get a top quality tire from someone like this.

The tire has obviously had something heavy stacked against it. The inner tread has been flattened creating a bulge in the sidewall. I'm guessing the dopes at FedEx probably stacked something heavy on it or against it. They don't give a rats ass how they handle stuff. Of course it could have been done in the warehouse of TireRack too. Whatever the case it is flawed and unacceptable. I'm hoping they make things right or at least put pressure on FedEx to replace it.

Whatever the case, I really wish I had given it a more thorough examination upon delivery. Goodyear Eagle GT HR, 225 60 16. 85 bucks before shipping. I had already bought 4 tires from them and one has gone "bad" with uneven wear due to an alignment issue.

The flat spot will likely go away once you install the tire. Sometimes they can be squished for a bit of time and look deformed, but you install them and put air in them and they are fine.

Any reason you choose that tire, other than that's what you had on the car already?

I could have gotten you a deal at a place local to you for a tire with better ratings (Potenza G009) for about the same money.

Thanks for the thought. Well I try to buy American when I can. Goodyear and Cooper are about the only choices anymore for American owned tire companies. Previous Goodyears have always worn well and given excellent traction and modest performance for me too.

Yes I can push on the tire and make the spot "disappear". I'm sure it may go away on inflation but why risk it. I'm the consumer and I would like a non-damaged tire. I don't feel like going through having it mounted and balanced only to find out it has a vibration due to the flattened spot. Then I'm out the refund and the price of mounting/balancing. Just being picky but it is my perogative as the consumer. :)

Just to follow up. Got a full refund for the tire and they didn't even want it back. I just don't think I'm going to mount the thing though. Try to find one locally.

How long did it take for you to receive your refund? It seems like this has been going on for a while now?

About 2 weeks. Guess I should try to sell the tire if they don't want it back?
