: Call from my Dealer
MILLPOND 10-27-2003, 12:08 PM I just got a call from my Dealer and he advised the MSRP will be $35,500.
He stated Pontiac has not offically told them the MSRP but this is what they are hinting at.
I am not sure if this is good or bad! Has anyone else received a call like this?
He also advised the next shipment would be with in the first two weeks of November. Which means I will get my GTO around late December.
NASA43 10-27-2003, 12:12 PM I hope that's not true, because then adding in another $700 for the 6 speed puts it over $36k.
Tails 10-27-2003, 12:53 PM That price will piss a lot of people off. Including me. BTW it appears (not confirmed) that the name of the next ship is "Pioneer Runner" and it leaves Adelaide on November 4.

I know that price is going to loose a lot of GTO fans!
Not surprising... This will give them room to play the rebate game if demand starts to slip. This puts the price of a GTO well over $600 per month on a 5 year financing plan.
Not a cheap car anymore

I am hoping to drop my payments under that by puting 7k down on it.
Davbo 10-27-2003, 02:31 PM I hope this is not true. But if it is, it probably means that they are sticking us with the gas guzzler tax. :jumpon:

Fat chance. Here in California GM has added a bonus rebate to offset the triple increase in the state auto registration tax. It applies to all GM vehicles EXCEPT the GTO!

You can find plenty of low mileage '02 and '03 Z06s for $35k on the private market. Private party sales will also save you a few bucks in sales tax and registration fees. ...and I willing to bet that you are not going to lose much in resale with a Z06 purchased at $35k vs a GTO at $37-38 (with tax and license).
I may just wind up giving my preorder up for grabs to anyone in the Los Angeles area - Barbados Blue Auto order # GKWQ8X first in line.
dkGTO19 10-27-2003, 03:22 PM $35,500 huh? That sucks guys. Waaay high, hope its not true. Makes vehicles like the RX8, Cobra, 350Z, etc. etc. look like that much better of a deal. Well since i wont be in the market for another 2 years for one hopefully i can find a cheaper used one or maybe by then, new ones then will have rebates....we'll see....
edge929 10-27-2003, 05:15 PM $35,500 is BS!
I can see $34,000 but not $35,500. If it is indeed $35,500 then I'm selling my "right" to my GTO on ebay and making $5000 to put towards either a WRX STi, RX8 or a decent used Z06 like you guys suggest.
This is just stupid

"Please be advised that this is a RIGHT TO BUY auction.
Your total purchase price for this vehicle will be your bid amount plus full MSRP and any applicable taxes and fees. Unfortunately, the MSRP is not available at this time, but Pontiac has informed us that it will range from $34,000 to $37,000. We estimate that the delivery date for this vehicle is late December."
4th gto 10-27-2003, 06:15 PM I just called my Dealer and he said that he was in a GM meeting today and no mention of any prices! If this turns out to be true, I'll be one pissed off SOB.
I've just about had enough of the way we are being treated on this whole project!
I'm sure the Dealers feel the same way. They don't know as much as we do. That's a hell of a way to do business! You'd think that this was a Goverment Project that is classified as "Top Secret".
I would think that at least they could keep it the same price $33,000 for all of us that have preordered and then if they wanted to raise the price so be it.
Now I feel better that I got that off my chest! :bs: :bs: :bs:

Hey, it's a Purple One. Gee if the MSRP is too high I can sell MY Purple one too.
:laughbounce: :laughbounce: :laughbounce: :laughbounce:
ta350 10-27-2003, 10:08 PM If it really does come in at $35,500, then I'll have to pass too. That's just too much. You can get a new SVT Cobra for under $30K now, and the GTO isn't worth an extra $6,000 IMO, especially when the Cobra has substantially better performance stock and is easier to modify. I know some of you don't think the Cobra is direct competition for the GTO, but I think it's the closest thing to a direct competitor out there (RWD 2+2 with a V8, T56 and IRS rear, and they also weigh almost exactly the same). A Z06 would be nice too, but I need a 2+2.
GTOSpeed 10-27-2003, 10:34 PM If it's going to be that much ($35k), then F*!K Pontiac. My second choice would be the WRX STI! Even at $34K I might strongly consider the STI. I really hope this isn't true. I hope what Jim Hopson said will come to pass. $33,795 is what I planned on spending because that's that’s what I’ve been told from early marketing material. Oh well, wait and see what happens.
.
chotton 10-27-2003, 11:12 PM So what you're saying is, if the car is $33,795 you will buy it, but if it's $34,000 then it's no longer a strong option for you. Does $205 dollars change your opinion of the car that much?
'91 Formula 10-28-2003, 07:40 AM Sounds like a little dealer mark-up to me. :(
GTOSpeed 10-28-2003, 12:34 PM Well I look at it this way: I'm not getting this car with an auto. And from that I've seen the 6 spd will be a $795 add on. So yes that puts me at $250 under $34K if MSRP is $33K. However if MSRP is set at $34K then that puts me at $250 under $35K. After TT&L were talking close if not over $36K for this car. And to be honest with you the STI has superior components on many levels (excluding interior, stereo), drive train, brakes, wheels, etc, and comes in at a little under $31K. Yes there is no replacement for displacement....however the GTO in it's current configuration is not worth anything higher than $33K.
Tails 10-28-2003, 12:59 PM I see what you mean. If you were to add the complete stereo package and the turbo boost guage you would be at 33,127 for the STI. Which is about the same price as the GTO without the manual transmission.
dkGTO19 10-28-2003, 01:29 PM The GTO isn't coming in at that cheap of a price, if he's correct, and the GTO does come in at $35,500, then thats $2,500 cheaper for an STi, with those options, than a Goat. If the GTO is $35,000 new, then no I don't think its worth that. But of course, after the first year of the vehicle being sold, you'll be able to deal with the salesmen and get them to chop the price down for you, but at the soonest at the end of the 2004 model year when they're going to get in the '05's shortly. Then after the first year, you can get some good deals on GTO's, so I wouldn't be too worried guys, unless of course, you have already preordered one like I know many of you have. You can find new Supercharged Cobra's for $6000-$7000 cheaper than a new Goat at that price, and with the cobra you get a supercharged engine that can give you a crap load of horsepower for very little money. The Goat is looking less and less greener when you think about it like that
MILLPOND 10-28-2003, 02:26 PM For me it is not just about owning a car with a lot of power.
It is owning a vehicle that hardly no one has. It is about owning
a part of automotive history. Wheather or not the old Goat owners
like it, this car will be talked about for a long time to come. Specially
if it is anything like Pontiac says it will be. Sure, a lot of us could go out
and buy a Cobra or a Vette....but to be honest, I dont care for those cars.
Those cars have had there time in the spotlight. I think Pontiac is turning a
new leaf in American automotive history. Sure, it may not be as fast as the
Vette but I will bet once people start seeing the new GTO you are going to
get a lot more looks in this car! A lot more people asking "what was that?"
I believe on the other side of that leaf that is turning is the rebirth of the
American muscle car. For me this is very exciting time. I love the old
muscle cars but they have never done it for me. Now the new GTO is
for all the younger guys who missed out on the early muscle cars.
So, if you wnat to go and get the Cobra, STI, or the BMW go ahead. They are
great cars.....But think hard about it before you do. You may miss out
on something big!
These are just my thoughts and are not directed towards any one person.
Nocturn 10-29-2003, 05:38 PM Thats true, but most people don't buy a car on that alone. One of the main selling points for the GTO was that it was a good deal lower in price then alot of other cars on the market that had alot less power, but now it seems GM has dropped the ball again and priced to high, so that they will loose alot of their preorders, which this post itself has demonstrated.

We did get confirmation from Jim Hopson at GM that the price would be right around $33,000. It will be announced on Monday.

i totally agree! they did that to me when i was calling around trying to find someone who would sell it for msrp. most are marking it up 5000 dollars. but prices so far don't seem to go above 33,695. and as i recall from another site, there will be no guzzler tax! :D
Rocket 11-01-2003, 05:59 PM look on EBAY, Some are selling the "Rights To Buy" for Upwards of $6,000.00!
Thats just stupid. I am getting mine for MSRP and nothing more. I have $1,000 down, but who cares, that goes twords the purchase!
