formula79 03-21-2007, 10:29 PM Who is running it?
I header the basic catback today in person for the first time, and all I can say is OMG! I must have one of these....the sound clips on Youtube do not do it justice!!
LA_Phantom 03-21-2007, 10:32 PM I have a friend in Satellite Beach, Florida who is running them on her '05 GTO...along with Kooks long tube headers. I will check to see if she has a sound clip.

Nocturn 03-22-2007, 01:58 AM Had it on my old firebird, LOVED every minute of it.
LA_Phantom 03-22-2007, 06:28 PM My friend out of Florida said she made a soundclip of her exhaust and has uploaded it to streetfire.net. She said she will email me the link when it is ready for viewing.

LA_Phantom 03-22-2007, 07:02 PM Alright...here's the link:

IMO I think this sounds pretty durn sweet... :D

DeezGTO 03-22-2007, 07:23 PM Sounds great.... but wish she would have given us a sound clip driving.
LS2weber 03-22-2007, 10:50 PM Sounds good can you talk her into doing a burn out? What can I can I like smokie burn outs
formula79 05-11-2007, 02:22 AM I am seeing more and more people run Spintech anymore. I am considering it myself.
LA_Phantom 05-11-2007, 04:48 PM I am seeing more and more people run Spintech anymore. I am considering it myself.
I have heard a few sound clips of the Spintech's and find that I like the note they strike when the engine is revved. However, after having heard the Corsa Sport in person, I have to say that they are probably the best sounding catback I have heard at idle. That is, my Magnaflow CB is very subdued at idle...the Corsa Sport is not. :D

formula79 05-12-2007, 03:09 PM Spintech is very deep...you almost feel it in your chest. I am not a fan of their build quality though.
mechanic58 05-12-2007, 03:23 PM Sounds good...bumper looks like ass...but I like the way it sounds. How much do these systems cost?

Aluminized is like $650...I hate the tips too.
LA_Phantom 05-15-2007, 03:40 PM Aluminized is like $650...I hate the tips too.
Not that I have to worry about it, but how does an "aluminized" exhaust hold up to road salt?
-K
Nocturn 05-17-2007, 10:32 PM i've been considering making a custom system for my car, but its not a V8, so i'm hesitant to spend money without knowing how it will sound, but I heard it on an RX8, which is probably the smallest engine out there today, and it sounded good. Same tone, just higher pitched, not buzzey at all.
LS2weber 05-18-2007, 01:12 PM Not that I have to worry about it, but how does an "aluminized" exhaust hold up to road salt?

Road Salt! I think you will get another 3 or 4 years over stock but man road salt that's gotta suck bad
Orbit Orange 05-18-2007, 02:42 PM There's a reason why people look to SoCal and the desert southwest for rot free sheetmetal on older cars. As for us in the midwest and east coast road salt and cinders are a common winter pestilence on our cars. :(
LS2weber 05-18-2007, 02:52 PM Yet another reason we put up with CA, My Blazer is from the east and it's a 00 the whole bottom is rust, no the strange thing is CA think a car with 50k on is way low mileage for a used car the average is about 80k and up and that is still good for us.
formula79 05-20-2007, 01:08 AM Aluminized will last longer than most people will have the car. They do offer a stainless option at a signifigant premium.
MissGTO 06-08-2007, 12:43 AM Where is the cheapest place to order a Spintech Pro Street exhaust for an '05 6.0?
LA_Phantom 06-08-2007, 01:20 AM Where is the cheapest place to order a Spintech Pro Street exhaust for an '05 6.0?
www.marylandspeed.com appears to have some pretty good prices on Spintech exhaust systems. However, I did not see Spintech Pro Street listed explicitly.

svede1212 06-08-2007, 07:02 PM i had a Spintech Pro Street 2 1/2" exhaust made up for my car with a Magnaflow x-pipe. now i have a cammed, headers, !cats exhaust to start with and it was really loud, too loud for me. i added 3" inlet/outlet 21" Power Sticks to it up in the mid-pipe section and now i love the sound. a little more subdued at low throttle but screaming at WOT. PS i got my Spintechs on eBay and got a lot better price than the speed shops
LS2weber 06-09-2007, 11:17 AM :) Sound clip would be cool
Wretched 6.0 06-09-2007, 11:40 AM I have the magnaflow system on my car, and I don't like the sounds of it when i shift. It makes a noise that sounds like a turkey being raped. Not sure what i'm going to do about it, but maybe the Spintech sould be an option.

MissGTO 07-15-2007, 04:50 PM Thanks Phantom.
MissGTO 07-17-2007, 10:41 PM IS there many on here with flowmasters? I'm beginning to think I should just go the smart/cheap route and get a flowmaster AND kooks LT's rather than just a borla or spintech and have to put the kooks on hold.
One more ?: I cannot seem to find an online store with a flowmaster exhaust for an '05 gto. I went to flowmasterperformance.com and they stop at '04. Any suggestions? Thanks!

sorry but flowmaster just as cheap as you were expecting never bothered to make a whole exhaust kit for 05-06 GTOs, even the 04 isn't that great. what they do recommend is buy their 40 series that they sell mainly for 60s muscle cars and install those on the GTO. theres probably one person on here who has flowmasters but i haven't seen them on for a while; ironic though they made a fully custom black painted exhaust system for the 05 mustangs when they came out, can you sense the favortaisim there? i wouldnt ever consider borla, its too expensive cause its stainless steel and its polised both inside and out, its good but not wroth the cash. spintech is good but also look into: magnaflow and corsca
asktk 07-26-2007, 12:39 PM ironic though they made a fully custom black painted exhaust system for the 05 mustangs when they came out, can you sense the favortaisim there?
The reality is that any manufacturer is going to build products where there's a volume market. Compare the Mustang production of something like 140,000 units vs. GTO sales of (I'm sure I'm misstating) something like 9,000-10,000 units. If you are going to the expense of R&D and scaled manufacturing, you need to pick opportunities where you can sell a bunch.
MissGTO 09-04-2007, 03:22 AM So, I still have yet to buy an exhaust or headers for my goat. :( The more research I do... the more I change my mind. I was on Ls1gto.com and I see several people buying just the spintech mufflers and getting an H-pipe. Anyone here familar with this set-up. I guess there's this guy on the site that fabricates his own h-pipes. You can get a clamp or weld one. The one you have to get welded would be better, right?
The only reason I really wanted an exhaust was for sound. I know you don't get much horsepower from it that's why I'm thinking about just getting the spintech pro street mufflers for sound and getting Kooks LT's.
From what I've heard on youtube of the spintech mufflers.... it impressed me. What do you guys think? Will I be fine for Indiana's emissions or no? I heard that from switching from my x-pipe to an H-pipe with spintech mufflers will possibly set off an O2 sensor. Is this true?
Thanks!

What, am I chop liver? :p
I have the 40 series Deltaflow Flowmasters and love them. I heard the Spintech, Corsca on a few Goats and they sound good. One of them (witch one I forget) sounds a bit ricey to me. Borla sounds good too. I never did like Magnaflow. Still don't. My old man had them on his 88 Camaro with a 383 stroker supercharged. To much pop-in and rattling. He switched to Flowmasters. Also a local Goat owner switched from Magnaflow to Flowmasters after hearing my baby.;)
Nocturn 09-04-2007, 03:50 PM Why the hell would anyone switch to an H pipe? X pipes have been proven time and time again to offer better gains. Unless you want to sacrafice power in order to alter the sound, there is absolutely no reason to swtich to an H. An aftermarket X pipe will ALWAYS make more power than an aftermarket H pipe.
That said, swapping mufflers or for that matter anything AFTER the catalytic converters shouldn't alter your emissions at all. The only thing that might keep you from passing is if you remove the cats, or switch to long tubes, but I'm not sure about indiana's laws so.
MissGTO 09-05-2007, 02:59 AM Ok so if I just buy the spintech mufflers.... will they sound similar to these cars....
Car #1 http://youtube.com/watch?v=Lni_h7n3rQc
Car #2 http://youtube.com/watch?v=F1UAHs1qkiU
These cars are '05 & '06 GTO's with ONLY the spintech mufflers.
Also, I thought the '05 and '06 GTO's came stock with an x-pipe? Or were you saying to upgrade the oem x-pipe to an aftermarket x-pipe?
Thanks!

Well logically, if these cars have spintech mufflers only, and you upgrade to the same product you would sound the same.
A factory x pipe will probably flow better than an aftermarket H pipe, but an aftermarket X pipe would flow best, in short don't upgrade to an H pipe as they are horribly ineffecient, if your going to change the X pipe, upgrade to a better X pipe.
MissGTO 09-05-2007, 05:06 PM And where would I find the best aftermarket x-pipe for a reasonable price?
Thanks alot! You've been great help.
Nocturn 09-05-2007, 06:46 PM I haven't a clue, I last bought one from Dr.Gas who was partnered with Spintech at the time, I have no idea who makes the best ones now, or for the GTO as it was for a different car.
cncmasterofor 09-05-2007, 06:57 PM Are the aftermarket X-pipes really worth $ compared to stock?

Is replacing the mufflers worth it?
cncmasterofor 09-06-2007, 02:36 PM Is replacing the mufflers worth it?
I think it's worth it for the sound quality. As for the HP gains?
I can only assume that the X-pipe would have better flow vs the H-pipe vs stock. I am totally unedjucated on the three. Help a brother out.:)

Yes, X pipe has much better flow dynamics than the H. Having dual exhaust with no crossover is the worst though, crossovers improve flow and balance between the pipes. They also smoothen out the tone for a more consistant sound. So you hear the engine as a hole, and less of each individual cylinder.

interesting, i would get flowmasters but the fact there is no full system which in understand cause the GTO is a limited produced car, however here in cali everyone has flowmaster! not to mention the cops get paranoied fast when they hear you accelerating and they already suspect your up to no good.

i agree, i remember when i took automotive in highschool we saw the different layouts for dual exhaust and H design is severly out dated; an x system just connects better.

check to make sure that they sell a full cat back exhaust for the GTO from spintech, if they do your already buying the pllumbing with the X pipe in it

ROFLAO statement of the day for sure, however I know what he's talking about though,:D I had the same raped Turkey sound when ever I got on it at about 2500-3000 rpm in my 01 Camaro (Supercharged 3.8L), with MagnaFlow, they rap out nice in the upper range  and have a nice tone when idling, but midrange was not to appealing. :(
