my day was going pretty decent till i saw my check engine light on, im not really mad but im wondering what it could be. of course it can be many things since nothing mechanical is guarentee its actual use, but i hope its just a faulty sensor. i recently had the oil changed two weeks ago so that covers that, and i threw in a K&N replacement filter for the air box when i got the car; i wonder if that might need cleaning. any ideas of what it might be for those who experienced check engine light at low miles?

It might just be that your gas cap isn't screwed on tightly.

Take a minute or two and drop by AutoZone (assuming you have those where you are) and have them scan the code to determine the origin. It usually does not cost anything more than your time for them to do this for you. I suspect that it is nothing serious enough to worry about. It is probably just an inordinate amount of rubber built up in your rear fender wells. I'll bet you were not aware that the GTO even had such a sensor. ;)

theres a sensor for that????????? i didnt know autozone did that sort of thing, ill do that then, if its nothing serious should i have them clear the code? i already checked the gas cap, its fine cause i hadn't put gas into for like a week when the error came up out of the blue.

i called autozone and they acutally rent it out for a 110 dollar deposit, and then i have to ask them what the code is when i return it

I have a question? Did the dealer change the oil or did you? I also understand you should get an easy 6,000 miles before you need to clean the K&N got light on the oil. Let us know.
P.S. love the wheels

I would be surprised if you could not get the code and then look it up on the Internet. If it is nothing serious, the code may clear itself after some driving. However, I would definitely find out what code was thrown. You always have the option of taking it to the <bleech!> dealer.

well i already arranged to take it back, it might have been the gas cap but it doesn't seem like the code is going to clear itself. i was thinking if maybe my KN filter is too dirty by now and it caused it, but i only had it for two months so i think im safe; but then i got paranoid wondering if the MAF sensor is dirty from it, then those guys at the dealer are really going to charge me. i just have the filter for the air box

yea the dealer changed the oil two weeks ago, i did it at 3,000 cause really i didnt know i was running synthetic lol. they guy said it wasnt necessary but ok to do so, and i can change it again another 6,000 miles like you said. and i was thinking about the KN filter, they say under normal conditions you should clean it once a year or more if it looks dirty, but i dont think it got to the point i only had it for two months. oh and thanks for the comment on the wheels, they 18's look nice all polished up, when i saw the 17's all polished i kinda liked them more then the ones i got lol

I have had k&N on 6 cars none have ever needed cleaning before 25,000 miles so I doupt thats it. Normally they recommend at 50,000 miles. Let the dealer check it out.

already did and the verdict: the gas cap wasn't tight enough. extremly embarrasing, didn't think a sensor was that sensitive, but oh well the cleared the code and washed my car, they guy told me to bring the review sheet i get in the mail and he will give me my next oil change for free, so all was not lost

That gas cap, I bet we are the only State that does a gas cap check during smog check.

heck ya, we only have the most rediculously high standards concerning emissions and yet... they dont work! you can see a fine cloud covering L.A. any time during the day
