: Traction Control Stuck "ON"
Stevo 04-20-2007, 09:23 AM Hey guys, I know I'm posting this porbably in the wrong section, so hopefully a mod will move. Anywho, here's what's up:
Back in January like the 27th, I was rushing somewhere and place a cup of coffee (sigh...from Starbucks...it was the closest thing) in the cup holder closest to the window/traction control buttons. I was rushing (read as: beating the GTO) to get to a show my band was about to go on.
When I got to the venue, there was coffee like a pool in the center console. since then my traction control will NOT shut off, I imagine a switch got damaged or something.
There's an Autocross event here in Atlanta this Sunday and I'd like to compete, but not with t/c stuck on.
Any ideas of a quick fix?
djbrianc 04-20-2007, 10:04 AM Mines cut itself off from time to time, without me doing anything and wont come back on till I restart the car. Dealer has ordered the part they need to fix it , but its only happed 3 times
Stevo 04-20-2007, 12:00 PM Yeah it was intermittant at first...now completely stuck in the "ON" position.. Dang...
LS2weber 04-20-2007, 12:51 PM If you can get to the button just remove it and clean it with Chemtronics Flux-Off or you can try rubbing Alcohol and that should work. It sounds like the coffie is causing a small short, good luck
QSMGTO 04-20-2007, 02:04 PM Had the same thing happen in my Cavalier' console mounted power window switches. A can of soda spilled it's contents on the switches and they failed to lower the windows. I removed the switch unit and cleaned them with electrical contact cleaner but they worked intermittantly. I guessed that the contact cleaner wasn't removing the water soluble sugar so I ran hot water from the faucet into the swithces and let it completely dry overnight and the next day blew it out with canned air. That fixed it, no problems since.

Did you get to go and compete? If so, how did you do?
Stevo 04-23-2007, 10:07 AM nah, couldn't get the **** traction control to come off... I will take apart the console though per the suggestiosn above. I was afraid of having to do that! :)
Me and my better half took the 'Vette out to dinner after I spent all day Saturday working in the ****ed yard, Sunday I was relaxing and scouring the web for info on my issue.
I just want to avoid having to dump it at the dealer... thanks again all for the cleaning suggestions. I have band tonight so tomorrow, I'll hook it up.
Quick note on the event, my good friend and work pal took his Miata there and had some fun, but noted there's a
big rivalry between the Subaru Club and the S2000 club, so it made for an interesting day. I plan on getting in on the next one.
vryfast 06-06-2007, 07:51 PM Since traction controls been mentioned , I was wondering if anyone had the feeling of the gas peddle being pushed back at ya. If so whats causing it. I always got mine off because of this.

I could be way off base here, but it seems to me that this is traction control at work. Someone described traction control to me once before, but I cannot remember the details. What I can remember of this conversation was that there are two methods of controlling traction and it seems that the GTO employs the methodology of pulling throttle from the pilot. This memory fragment is what I based my initial statement upon. Should someone have better, more accurate information, please do not hesitate to correct me.

Retard or suppress the spark to one or more cylinders
Reduce fuel supply to one or more cylinders
Brake one or more wheels
Close the throttle, if the vehicle is fitted with drive by wire throttle.

As mentioned by others, it is definately the Traction control, it scared the **** out of me first time I hit the gas going into a turn. I really don't like the concept of something forcing me to let off on the gas, I wish the default was off, first thing I do when I get in is turn it off. Besides using it will only make it wear out faster and they are extremely expensive to have repaired.
