Im new here and new to forums, but now have 24k on my goat. Up to about a week ago it seemed full of power and even in 2nd gear starting off i could spin the wheels. And now with TC off from a rolling start in first im not even getting a chirp! any ideas? I know there is tons of knowledge around here.

i doubt it could be anything like limp mode or anything like that but at 23k i would have gottten used to it a long time ago.. it just seems real sluggish at times.. if your rolling out of first gear driving normally at 4mph and then slam on it what do you experience? besides the check oil light comming on and its due for one, i got a "service engine soon" message..1 time following the "service engine oil" after starting it, i shut it down and restarted it and it never showe up again. do you think this was from the service oil soon being on for a few days or it actually threw a code a possible something wrong? Im dropping it off to the dealer this sat for the oil but who knows if they will have time to make sure everything is in good running order, but i asked them to check while its in.. but you know how dealers can be.

It's about time for a tune anyhow. Take it to a performance shop and they'll find ways to get more power out your car in stock form.

If it's still under warantee, make an appointment to be checked out at the dealer. They'll see if it has thrown any codes and then go from there.

You want a healthy engine before you go throwing mods at it. Then do what scot254 says. ;)

on the other hand how effective do you think a ecm tuner would be on a m6? i know some of programers highlights have to do with automatic trans. I have still havent talked to anyone with a programmer, wondering if their worth it.

It is worth it to me. I've got a Predator with a canned tune on my '04 A4. I've ditched the torque management, firmed and quickened my shift points and it also lets me monitor several engine parameters that aren't displayed in the vehicle.

I'm not so sure how handy it would be with a M6 but it's a neat little tool to boot. Let's you read trouble codes and clear them if necessary too. One of these days if I finally do a H/C swap I'll probably get it professionally tuned. Until that time it has came in handy as well as a little power boost as well. My non-scientific trials with my G-tech meter have shown about a .2 second drop in quarter times with the canned tune vs. the stock tune on my '04.

It's just personal preference I guess. :)

Just a heads up, earlier this year when I was running my baby, had a loss of power that gradually increased over time. Within 2 weeks the service soon light came on and I brought it in. Ended up being the right side exhaust was completely blocked - cat had busted (?). Was all warranty covered stuff, and I got to drive a sweet Vibe (sarcasm), but was time away from my GTO none the less.
