: Dealers...... ugh!!!!
DeezGTO 05-15-2007, 07:32 PM So, I brought the goat in yesterday morning, at 7am to get a bunch of maintence work done and to fix that door lock problem I had and a problem with my second key.
So... I roll up and the guy asks what I was there for, I told him my list,
Oil and filter change, to please use synthetic, I wanted my Cooling system drained, flushed and refilled. I wanted the rear differential oil changed and inspected, and I wanted my transmission flushed and serviced. Tires rotated.
Also, to fix the driver's side door lock and re-program the secondary key faub.
So, with the kids in the car waiting in the service bay... they guy was slow as molassas. I had to keep telling him what I wanted. Sheeshhh!
So,, he says that he really liked my car and he really wanted one. One of the service writers was like.... "is that the 400 or the 350?" (okay, first off, he knew it was an 04, that should have answered his question right off the bat) So, I said... "it's the 5.7" .... okay.... I could hear crickets at this point. "It's the 350 HP. the 5.7"
When I was telling him the problem I had with the key, he tried to tell me that it was related to the door lock issue. I told him that it was not related to the door lock issue. They were separate issues altogether.
Okay.... so that was first thing in the morning.... then in the afternoon, the guy calls me and says that they were waiting on the door lock actuator and that he needed the code for the key faub that is given when you purchase your car from the dealer. I told him, yet again... that I was not the original owner and that I did not have the code. He kept saying that he needed that code and there was no way to program the key without it.
(this is when I lost my patience). I said to him, that he needed to call Pontiac and ask for the info on the build sheet and that the code was most likely on it.
I said they had to keep this information since vehicles change hands many times and information like that does not get passed along. ( I mean really!!!!) It's just so frustrating.
Needless to say...... it's now the end of day two.... and my car sits in the service dept waiting on an actuator. Grrrrrrrrrr.
.................................................. .................................................. ..
Okay... I'm gonna blow a gasket!!!!!!
Those idiots are telling me they can't fix the key because they don't have the code info and GM won't tell them anything!
Guess, I'm calling GM in the morning.
LA_Phantom 05-15-2007, 10:00 PM Super D...you seem to have all of the luck when it comes to your goat. First it is the hood paint issues...now this. As you described this incident, it is no wonder I do not trust the dealership to wipe my nose for me. Hopefully these morons do not have your baby too much longer.

mechanic58 05-15-2007, 10:03 PM Take it to a different dealer, only this time, show some boobies right off the bat. :D
Orbit Orange 05-15-2007, 11:21 PM Seems like there were plenty of boobs at that service department already, if you catch my meaning. :(
Wretched 6.0 05-15-2007, 11:36 PM Just remember a lot of times the guys at the counter are just doing what the tech has told him. All the tech knows is that he needs the code, and the code is on the card. but he has no idea you can get it another way. He tells sales guy to call you and get it cause it's the only way he can do it.
If dealers were more expeirienced with our cars it woulnd't be a big issue, but since they don't know them very well we just need to be a bit more pro active.

There were. Complete and udder incompetence!

I just wonder how much more pro-active I have to be, by spelling it out to them, that THEY need to contact GM to figure it out.

Well, it's not like it's bad luck... It's just incompetence, complaicency and poor work ethic that really ticks me off. I went down there this evening to pick up my car. They ended up getting the actuator and got the lock fixed.
I was so steamed by the time I left. ( the a**hole, made me wait over 20 mins to talk to him) I know he was avoiding me.
Anywho.... he made this lame excuse why they couldn't fix the key. He said that in order to fix it that they would have to get new keys and re-key my whole car... door locks, ignition etc. I mean,,, does he really think I am that stupid????? Because he said the car is from Australia. (I wanted to grab a brick and smash his head in). No,,, I don't have anger issues. :D
So, I paid my $483 and waited for the porter to bring my car out. When he pulled up... I just about lost it. GREASY handprints all over the hood. And my car was filthy. I mean, at least they could have washed it.
You know... GM wonders why they are losing thier ass...... thier customer service SUCKS!!!!!
Come on..... if your gonna f**k me, at least give me my car back clean.
And I haven't even gotten to the part about when I called GM myself today to get some help or answers.
asktk 05-16-2007, 12:51 PM My locks stopped working after about 2 months. Was told it was actuators. They replaced - and as I walked out to the car to go home, clicked the fob and neither door opened. They stated that both actuators blew. Then they had to replace the body control module (BCM) and swapped out the cut key portion to knew electronic fob portion. Now the doors only unlock if I'm less than 5 feet from the car. I complained and got the "it is what it is" explanation.
FROROCKS 05-16-2007, 02:27 PM I actually have a good relationship w/my dealership, know guys in service, parts, and body shop. Was in there picking up a spare key for the wife's GP and noticed a PBM '06 in the service bay. Asked the fellas what was up with it and was told it was in the process of have its BCM replaced-also a key/fob problem. All they said that it had been a nightmare.
DeezGTO 05-17-2007, 08:42 PM Yesterday morning, I went back to the dealer to ask if the parts guy could pull the BCM code to reprogram the key. Or if a new fob was needed, when they got the keycode, to please print it out for my records.
My service advisor was a total jerk, and said it couldn't be done. Then I asked the parts guy, who denied it could be done, he then called over his manager and made me explain "again" what I needed. He said that he wasn't familiar with GTO's and that the parts guy should ask the Service Director.
So, the parts guy goes to the SD's office, comes back and says "The Service Director would like to speak to you in his office." (like I was a child in trouble, being sent to the principal's office).
So, I walk over to his office, and he stands up, and then was hesitant to shake my hand. He asks "What's the problem?" I told him that his service dept sent me home without fixing my key issues and that they said that "I" had to locate the original owner or dealer to find the codes. I told him that, that was unacceptable, that I knew that they could get the codes, and as I'm talking, he was shaking his head "no". When I was done, he said they cannot get the codes, that the car would have to be re-keyed. And then the computer on the car could then be reprogrammed.
I threw my hands up and said that was ridiculous! I knew what I was talking about and that no one was willing to help. I said "thanks for nothing", grabbed his business card and walked out. He was all proud and said that I was welcome!
I was so furious!!!!! So, I went to another local Pontaic dealer... one that I used when I had my Grand Prix GT and it was like I entered another world.
The guy I talked to was, understanding, polite and helpful. I told him my problem and the problem I had with the other dealer.
He asked for my VIN and I showed him I was the registered owner. He pulled up my car and he showed me all the history on it. He was
able to figure out the original dealer, and that it was used as a company vehicle. He showed me all the warranty work that had been done to it.
He knew that those cars came with a security card and that they had codes that could be pulled, but it had to be by the Parts dept.
He set me up in a loaner vehicle and sent me on my way.
I went to pick up my car today, they had to replace one key fob and program it. He printed out all my codes for me and when they brought down my car, it was all clean.
I thanked him so much! And told him I would be back as a customer.
So, tomorrow... I plan on going back to the other dealer and showing those a**holes that it could be done. I am also filing a complaint with the zone manager.
I will also be sending a letter to tell what good service I had at the Pontiac dealer.
Btw,,, they have 4 GTO's on thier lot. All A4's, one with SAP grilles.
The End.
LS2weber 05-17-2007, 08:49 PM Wow! That is some hell, some dealers suck bad, glad you got it all fixed.
LA_Phantom 05-17-2007, 10:29 PM It certainly is amazing how dealerships, such as the first one you went to, can stay in business when they treat their customers similar to the way you were treated. As much as I hate to say it, I will bet that I, being a male, would have been treated differently. Why is it that these a$$hats automatically assume that a female has no clue as to what she is talking about? I realize that there are women who don't know anything about the vehicles they drive. However, it is not because they are stupid. Instead, their ignorance is due to the fact that they just don't care to learn about the car they drive. DeezGTO, you are very much like my sister in the sense that you know about your ride and have a low tolerance for stupidity and condescending attitudes, which I do not blame one bit. Nothing like hot chicks in fast cars who can hold an intelligent conversation. Be sure to let your hubby know how lucky he is to have been afforded the once in a lifetime opportunity to be in the presence of greatness. ;)
Anyhow SuperD, it is good to read that you got everything straightened out with your car. Hopefully, you are good to go now. BTW: Have you ordered your GMM Rip Shifter yet? Also, Gravana Tuning is working a group purchase for ROH Drift R wheels. The really cool thing about these wheels is that you can get a 9" wide wheel for the rear of the goat and run a 275-series tires without having to roll, cut, and/or grind the rear fenders in an effort to mitigate tire rub. This is due to the wheel offset, which is something like 52 mm...but I digress...which is not that uncommon with me. :D

DeezGTO 05-18-2007, 01:22 AM Thanks K!
Unfortunately, I have to agree with you in the fact that most women just don't care to educate themselves about the vehicles they drive. And it's one of my biggest pet peeves. I especially love this... Question: "what kind of car do you drive?" Answer: "A white one" Aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrgh!!!!!!
That just chaps my hide!
I do know quite a bit about my car... I do not know as much as you or my husband and most of the guys on here about all the technical stuff... but I think I can hold my own. I just make it a point to read and get dirty.
And not only do I like to know about my car, but other makes and models too. Domestic and Imports. Always have, always will.
I just think that if a woman sounds like she knows what she's talking about with her car... then the guys at the dealership should give her the benefit of the doubt.
Me and the hubby have made it a point to teach our daughter all the same things we would our son about cars. She HAS to at least be able to name major parts of the engine, know how it works, be able to change the oil and the tires before she can drive. And she will learn to drive a stick right off the bat. (just like I had too)
Anyway.... I guess the key thing isn't quite fixed yet... it made the 5 quick honks after I locked the car... and I tried it with both key fobs. So,,, something is up.
Oh... and no haven't ordered the Ripshifter yet. We just dumped a ton of $$ into the car and I have some other things to pay for right now. (private school registration, etc) It'll have to wait a bit longer. :(
Orbit Orange 05-18-2007, 10:05 AM Sorry about those A$$clowns. At least the 2nd dealer did you right.
Make sure you do register a complaint with the Pontiac zone manager/office AS WELL AS commend the second dealer for treating you right. I'd even take it a step further and register a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. You can even do it online. These dunces at the original dealer are what is bringing GM down. GM and Pontiac needs to know about it too. Let them know.
Glad your door problem is fixed. :)
FROROCKS 05-18-2007, 11:01 AM Sorry Dee, but what a bunch of butt munchers, make sure you let them have it. Hate people that think they know more about a subject/issue and in their ignorance talk/treat people like they possibly don't know what their talking about. What ever happen to good old customer service?
LS2weber 05-18-2007, 01:06 PM You know when I worked at Dodge we would have our a$$ sent home for treating a customer like that, and at my job now hell my job would be gone, even if the customer is wrong, I took great pride at Dodge to do thing right the first time after all my name was on that. People that don't care about customer should not be working with customers.
DeezGTO 05-18-2007, 01:46 PM Both my husband and I have had major problems with that dealership.
When I got home last night.... the door lock actuator went out again.
(the crappy dealer supposedly fixed it.)
So, I took the goat back to the dealer that fixed the key fobs and asked them to fix the door lock. I also asked them to road test the car because (the other dealer didn't when they said they did), it doesn't shift into gear as smoothly as I think it should. I also am having them flush the power steering and service the throttle body and injectors.
Hopefully after all this, I won't need to go back to the dealer for a long while.

gosh you know how much i would kill to find a woman like you who has "balls" in the sence and knows what she is talking about. i feel bad for you that dealership is @$$ backwards, and that you went to a decent one. i hope your problem gets fixed, i plan on taking Zero to the dealership next week to see my door lock issue. amazing that at one point in time, car dealerships actually knew what they were doing. at one point i almost worked at dodge but they were afraid to hire me cause i knew too much about the cars they sold for my age lol
DeezGTO 05-18-2007, 11:50 PM I guess girls like me are few and far between. That's what I am coming to realize.
At anyrate, they fixed the door actuator, did the power steering flush, cleaned the throttle body etc.
And, as I suspected..... the clutch is going out. (It has never felt smooth since I've owned it). Unfortunately, it's not covered under the warranty. But, fortunately, I do have some life left in it.
So,,, because I just spent a small fortune in maintenence..... I'll drive it until it really needs to be fixed.

I'm not going aftermarket. Our GTO's have one of the best transmissions on the market for 6 speeds.
LS2weber 05-19-2007, 04:40 PM I think he was talking about the clutch not the tranny, least I was.

yea the clutch, the tranny is great thats a tremec t-56 its the best on the market and used by euro and american car makers, just go with an aftermarket clutch.
DeezGTO 05-19-2007, 08:51 PM I know the tranny is a tremec. And it's one of the best out there.
I plan on upgrading my clutch to an LS7.

LS7? theres a clutch called the LS7 named after the engine?
LA_Phantom 05-19-2007, 11:57 PM When it is time for me to replace my stock clutch, I was considering the Textralia.
BTW: I have a clutch replacement writeup that I helped put together. The writeup is also good for slave replacement and is quite detailed. There are also plenty of pictures and illustrations. Should anyone be interested in obtaining a copy, please PM me with your email address, as the PDF file is quite large.

DeezGTO 05-20-2007, 12:43 AM Yes, it's the clutch used in the Z06. :)
The LS7 clutch will fit any LS1/LS6/LS2 powered vehicle but must have the Corvette LS2/LS7 flywheel. But, you must use the updated hydraulics for your make and model of vehicle, not LS7 hydraulics.
I've also been contemplating headers.

i looked it up on google and found a step by step description of the swapping of the LS2 clutch with the LS7, they say its easy but you got to get rid of the GTO specific flywheel and use Y-body style flywheel
