Are you disappointed in the GTO's 1/4mile showing?

I really thought, especially after reading Jim Wangers' gushings, that low 13s and even high 12s might be possible. So, I'm a little disappointed but mostly for Pontiac and GM who may not quite have hit a homerun in this car's market segment. Mine is still coming home with me.

It would have been nice to start with a 12 sec car. 13.6 is not that bad (for a front wheel drive V6 sedan that weighs more than the GTO) :D Flames expected.

the 14sec is the official pontiac numbers- they didn't actually test one themselves.

and the 5.3 & 13.6 is very good for a magazine test.

Considering the hotest of the hot factory Monaro's (400hp) here turn a low 13, then mid 13's is exactly where I guessed it'd be.

i think 13.3 at 105 normal 1/4 why because as i said before this summer a student had a lumnia ss that was imported ran 13.6 the weight should be real close but the gto will have more gear and updates in the engine or computer to make more hp if what we have heard is true???

Can you name a stock front wheel drive V6 sedan that pulls a 13.6 @ 105 with a 5.3 sec 0-60? :D

Remember I said stock so GTP's don't count as they pull high 14's stock in most cases. I'll pour through my mags to try to find one but I can't think of one off the top of my head. (Neon SRT4's, Evo 8's and WRX STi's don't count either: turbo 4 bangers!)

Not a flame just a question.

I will Flame him, because all he ever does is say how fast his Modded GTP is.....YIPPY we could care less in this Post about your front wheel drive 3.8 litre engine that needs to be "force-Fed" to make its power. Ours will actually have torque too (I know v-6's don;t refer to that term).

We all know that your GTP is cool, fast, and not stock, so PLEASE stop flaming our posts with your GTP stuff.
No offense, but I've only been a member here for like a week, and I have seen many different posts with this Irrelivant info in it!

Well we now all know what a 3.8 v6 in a frontdrive car will do with an M90 (or is it M60). Now lets see what a heavier rear wheel drive car 5.7 will do with an M112. :D

I agree, the GTP is a great car with exceptional potential, we all know it. I had one (sold it last month) that was running in the 12s. But give it a rest Cperki1, please don't turn this board into another ClubGP. Okay? Stock for stock, the GTO will obliterate the GrandPrix. If we can mod the GrandPrix, the GTO can be modded too.

Ok, I will lay off my car on the GTO board. I was hoping it would help pass some time till our cars get here in the states. I will be tesing my car tonight, if you guys are interested in my results, let me know.

We have enough to talk about. Even more now with the articles coming out in the buff books.

The important thing to keep in mind when reading magazine reviews is that they very rarely actually take them to a prepped dragstrip with timers and run them (only for special shootout articles). So, those numbers are 'real world' numbers that they get on plain pavement (with no race slick rubber laid down), probably not a burnout and measured with a 5th wheel attached to the side of the car feeding a datalogger. This means that the 'timer' starts the moment the car starts moving, not after it has rolled out 15 or 16 inches. That makes a HUGE difference.

Also, since they never have any control over the weather, times are not exactly comparable. Who knows, it might have been 94% humidity and 85 degrees (meaning down on power) the day they tested one car and 42 degrees and windy the day they test another car (meaning no traction). Magazine comparisons are for bench racers. I prefer to take mine to the track and get numbers that only matter to me.

Also, there is Probabely MUCH MUCH room for improvement in the 6 speed times. I have dragged my current car (5 speed), and time after time I continue to get faster with no modds. Its just learning how to launch the beast, and sometimes short-shifting to help traction, or maybe revving beyond red line in 1 gear to hit the power curve in the next gear. Its all factors that we will learn from driving the car for "thousands" of miles, not in just a few hundred miles.

I'm sure the traction control device also works well, but there is often room for improvement by turning it off and learning how hard you can dump th e clutch before breaking traction.

Its just all about getting it in the real world situations.......So in a few months we will all know!
I am happy with the set-up that we are getting.

Good numbers for a mag...I was expecting them (MT) to run around there...what's up with the C/D numbers though?
