How many of you have replaced the stock battery? If so, what did you replace it with and what size will fit?

Thanks!

lol...there you go again, replying to your own posts. LMFAO!

Why are you replacing your battery already? Just go to an autoparts store and have them look up which one you need. It's not rocket science Dee. lol.

I'm replacing my battery because I have over 50k on my goat, and it's leaking all over my engine And I can tell it's getting a bit hard to start.
And, I was asking opinions on batteries,,, because there are different qualities and I was just wanting some suggestions. That's all. Not rocket science either.

I'd stop replying to my own posts, if we had people to reply to them in the first place.

If your car's a keeper or you're going to keep it for a while longer, I'd go with: http://www.1st-optima-batteries.com/ That's what's going in my car when it's battery replacement time.

I believe the drop in Optima replacement for our GTO's is the Optima Red Top Group 35. Be prepared to drop some extra money for one of these though as they run around 150 bucks I believe.

If it is leaking, then wash it off. Contrary to what a lotta folks think, batteries DO require some maintenance, even the "maintenance-free" ones.

I've had many batteries that were more than 10 years old and still crankin the car. Mileage has nothing to do with it.

And if your battery continues to "leak" or boil over on a regular basis, then you MAY have a voltage regulator issue, not a battery issue.

(Your voltage regulator is built-in to your alternator)

From what I have gathered, you certainly do not want to have to replace the alternator in these cars. We are talking $$$$$. Just ask GM how much they charge for a new alternator.

The battery in my GTO crapped out on me a couple months ago (32,000 miles). It was replaced under warranty.

However, I had purchased the battery (AC Delco Professional Series) from a local Chevrolet dealer on a Saturday. I didn't think the battery would be covered under the factory warranty. The following Monday I decided to call the Pontiac dealer. The service consultant informed me that it is covered by the warranty. He knew someone at the Chevrolet dealer and had them reimburse me the purchase price of the battery.

I did have a tough time finding a battery though. The dealership was my last stop before heading to Thunder Racing for an Optima.

I am aware that batteries do require some maintenence.. and I do tend to it. Please remember though, that I am the 3rd owner of a high mileage gto. I do not know the abuse, lack of care or what have you, that the car has experienced prior to me owning her. That is why I just spent about $900 on all the services for it.

I know that the GTO battery is not a typical size and I wanted something better than a stock battery. That was the reason for the OP.

I think that I will go with the Optima. Just gonna have to save up some cashola.

Thanks

Well, I just replaced the battery in the goat... and it's a good thing I did.
That thing was JUNK! when you picked it up and put the slightest pressure on the sides,,, battery acid was oozing out the top.
Anyway, I went ahead with getting the Optima...but the place I ordered it from said that Optima was going to discontinue the battery that fits the GTO.
So, if your planning on switching over... you might want to do it sooner than later.

Did you end up with an Optima? We put in a yellow Optima and have not had any problems since it was repalced a month or two after we got the car.
