Yeah, something about it looking like a Cavalier Prix? If that doesn't look like a Nova/Omega/Ventura/Apollo, I don't know what does... Certainly one of the low points in automotive history. I think all the naysayers should be forced to drive 100 miles in once of those and immediately get a ride in a 2004 afterwards...that should change their mind :woot:

True GTO enthusiasts try to ignore the '73 and '74 GTOs and we wish that Pontiac had just stopped producing them after '72. The feul struggles of the mid 70's are evident in the cars' performances and the styling is just... 1974 GM. And we have a right to complain about the new GTO and it is not ignorant. It's tough to love a car that is trying too hard to fit in when it's predecessor tried so hard to stand out.

Not being an old GTO guy, why are the few GTO's that got painted god-aweful orange considered to be the standard for all GTO's ever built? From the cars I've seen at shows and on television, all but the Judge cars were considered sleepers. They looked like somebody took a stock car, did a little modding and got a nice fast ride that looked like your grandma could be driving it.

And as for what the new GTO is trying to be, it's trying to be Pontiac's move into building RWD V8 cars again - nothing more than that YET since the styling is directly taken from the Monaro for now.

I don't consider orange GTOs to be the standard for all GTOs. Just about all the orange GTOs you see are the Judges, which are very well known muscle cars. I never considered them sleepers though with the flamboyant decals and spoilers.

About the new GTO, the CARandDRIVER article said Pontiac had only 11 months or something to make the Monaro the new GTO. I think if more time would've been available, we would be seeing a nicer GTO. But it's good for now, and it will get better and better...
