:D

Reports suggest that HSV (Holden's performance division) will be building a GTS-R, based on the VE Commodore/Pontiac G8.

It will have 385kW LS7 and Tremec MM6 gearbox from the Corvette.

They just have to figure out if the rear diff can handle the power, hopefully it can :D

Yep, i reckon that car will happen, but not until the later half of 2008.
It will probably be the fastest 4 door GM car in the world.
Cheers, pickles.

One aftermarket company already sells an LS7 package

For around $35K on top of a new car, you can get LS7 goodness.

its right up there with some good cars in acceleration times

7008cc hand-built LS7 engine

Power: 400kW (est) (321kw at the wheels, according to them)
Torque: 660nm (est)

0-100km/h: 4.9sec
0-200km/h: 14.7sec

0-400m: 12.9sec

Interesting.

A good heads and cam package with the right supporting mods and a good quality tune would probably put you above the 536 HP and 492 TQ (from the 400kW and 660Nm listed) that the LS7 puts out at a LOT less money than 35K. I'm guessing that is 35K AUS$ which would be a little less in US$.

But hey there aren't a lot of LS7's running around out there so it's that persons money and desires. I just have more desire than money. ;)

OO, your above statement would make a GREAT signature. The thing about the LS7 is...sure one could out perform a stock LS7 with aftermarket heads, cam, intake, etc., but with an LS7 as the starting point, one could end up with a scary beast. Like you said, it just depends on the amount of money you are willing to part with...or can afford to part with.

Good point. 7 liters of displacement does sound sexy. You'd sure be unique with that setup. :)

I can foresee diff problems. Sure, it'd hold up under most normal driving sitations...but I feel pretty confident it would not hold up on Holden's or GM's proving grounds....or on paper for that matter. They will have to do something about the diff.

Just get a brick and put it under the accelerator. Problem solved. ;)

This car, domiciled the W427, was released at the Melbourne Motor Show earlier this month-scheduled for build in the 2nd half of this year, estimated price $140k+---should be a weapon!
Cheers, Pickles.

for $140K, it sure as hell better be.

Well, I reckon the final price could be $150k. BUT, it's not just a 7 litre engine-the whole car's been re-engineered. Stronger transmission, driveline, half-shafts etc, ABSOLUTELY HUGE brakes, even using a special pedal box to cope with stronger clutch etc!
Not sure when the first delivery will be made, but as HSV have said they're only making four a week, there'll be a waiting list for a while!
Cheers, Pickles.

The torque has been limited to save the drivetrain. The mag with the full article on it is in the car, and its cold, and I dont want to go out in the cold. It has the torque figure in it, its probably on the net but meh....lazy today.

But I know it was limited for that reason

Of course, this car is now in production. The HSV Owner's Club (Victoria) have been promised a viewing of a genuine production car, not a "prototype/mule" etc, at their next monthly meeting (at the end of this month)
A friend of mine has ordered one, & he expects delivery in August--HSV expect to build 90 this year.
Cheers, Pickles.
