This article mentions present day usage of asbestos in brakes and clutches. I thought that stuff was history.

Guess it would be wise to wear a dust mask when working on them, especially brakes, which generate a lot of dust.

I would go and say its never a good idea to inhale any sort of dust, be it mold or asbestos, or coal.

exactly, the problem is the manufacturing process can't really tell by the naked eye what is asbestos. its a rock essentially and can be mixed in with the manufacturing of brake pads, also there is such thing as good asbestos but once again they cant tell the difference or look for it

asbestos is alive and well in brake linings , many electric motors and generators. asbestos is the bestos. actually carbon brakes are much lighter but lets not go there. i agree dust in anyform isnt good for you.
