humbler 11-03-2003, 01:37 PM Leaving alot of room $$ wise for that LS6! Bring that in around 35 / 37 and we've got quite a deal going.
Faster than a Mach I, more room, better quality. The price of those advantages, $2000. I can handle that!
shotgun 11-03-2003, 01:42 PM Should only cost me 36-37k after taxes...
edsmaroonz 11-03-2003, 02:25 PM grrrrrreat / thank you..

That is funny. (No offense)
But dang, first you get stuck with a 1980's auto tranny, and then you have to pay extra for it in the end! :laughbounce:
Tails 11-03-2003, 03:40 PM I knew there would be snickering.

Commissar 11-03-2003, 03:43 PM interesting. I think my 2000 Sonoma 4 cyl. 5 spd has basically the same EPA fuel economy as the 04 GTO 6 spd!

UNTILL you "MAT" the GO-Pedal! :laughbounce:
Add $1,000 for the Auto (guzzler tax).
... I am wondering if any dealer is willing to sell below MSRP? The Toyota Prius - MSRP is around $20-25 with a 10,000 deep waiting list. Some dealers are still offering $1,000 off a fully loaded model. Any chance a Pontiac dealer will do the same?

This is a good point hq1. My first reaction to the gas guzzler tax was F@#K!!!!!
But, in the last hour I've reflected on it and realized that it might give us some leverage at the dealership. It may now become more difficult for the dealer to sell an automatic GTO. More people will want the manual. It's not a huge price difference because you have to pay extra for the manual but who knows??? And the total price is still within the range I expected.
I HATE TAXES AND ESPECIALLY THE GAS GUZZLER TAX!!!!
Tails 11-03-2003, 04:34 PM I have to second that one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:flush: :flush: :flush: :flush:
Gaijin 11-03-2003, 04:39 PM Excellent....very good news!
COOL GTO 11-03-2003, 04:48 PM Who here wants an automatic and why? I don't get it ??? I can hardley believe anyone would NOT want the six speed...
Gaijin 11-03-2003, 05:27 PM For my work, an auto would be a better choice actually...but I went with the 6M anyway.
I can see the auto being the choice for a lot of people.

This will be my everyday car and I have spent years driving in rush hour traffic with a stick. It is a pain in the rear and so I wanted to change to an automatic. I certainly understand your sentiment however!!

That didn't sound right...
cvp33 11-03-2003, 07:42 PM First I want to thank Bob Lutz for the vision, the diligence and the balls to bring this car to market in spite of the nay-sayers, the media and some so-called GTO loyalists.
Next I want to thank Holden. For perserving and developing a rear wheel drive car with V8 power and keeping it viable until the Americans came to their senses and realized this is what we've needed all along.
Next to Jim Hopson. For telling us what he could, when he could with no BS. Answering emails on weekends, at night and always in a timely manner. I wouldn't have stayed sane without the information he provided.
Finally to whomever made the decision to hold the line on pricing. I'm sure that this responsibility fell on someone. I'm sure they wrestled with whether or not to roll up to $34,000 or $35,000 and ran the spreadsheets for the ROI but ultimately someone said nah. Let's give the enthusiasts a car they can afford. A car they can feel good about putting another $1k or $2k in mods and go have some fun.
Pontiac - You did this one right! I'm proud of you! ;)
TriShield 11-03-2003, 07:58 PM Priced well IMO, but still needs more interior content in light of what a lot of the competition offers in that price range.

Just curious what interior content you are looking for? For a sporty ride, it seems to have all the luxuries I'd want.
$1000 gas tax or the auto
I hope the '05 or '06 gets the 6 speed auto that is said to be going into the C6 Vette. That should help improve the milage and drop that tax. A GTO with the A6 and tap-shift would be so hot.

Gaijin 11-04-2003, 03:53 PM Only thing I really wanted added that the Monaro doesn't have is HID headlights.
droopy 01-03-2004, 03:18 PM I have to agree with coolgto. I will never understand the American affinity for automatic transmissions. Manuals deliver better performance, mileage, are much more reliable, and are cheaper and easier to repair when they do break. And yes I've driven in MAJOR traffic with a manual. It's not as if it requires any thought or concentration for me. It's just all second nature. I'm sure they have traffic in Europe and yet most of their cars have manual transmissions. If I ever get a leg amputation, I'll get an auto. If I ever get a lobotomy, I'll continuously drive in the left lane on the Interstate while holding up faster traffic and having an extended cell phone conversation. And people wonder why an American can't compete in F1. Perhaps it's because F1 cars don't have cupholders :( OK, rant over. Perhaps I'm just frustrated because I'm dying to see a new GTO .
Gaijin 01-24-2004, 06:37 PM No need for this to be pinned anymore.
