: Pontiac GTO Performance Plus Concept
formula79 11-03-2003, 07:31 PM This showed up on GM's Media site today....there is no documentation on what exactly it is though. I hear it may forshadow some of the changes that the car will see in 05.

TriShield 11-03-2003, 07:52 PM A nice improvement without looking too ricey, but it still needs a tastefully sculpted and functional Ram Air hood though.
I'm hoping more "luxury" options show up as well, such as HIDs, heated seats, dual zone automatic climate control, navigation, XM radio, side airbags, the kind of stuff the competition like the Infiniti G35 offers.
drfresh 11-04-2003, 08:57 AM Starting to look to much like a Grand Am here. I agree, a more aggressive hood would do nicely. That front lower bumper treatment looks nasty. I never understood why people get those navagation systems, what happened to using a map? Just another distraction to divert your eyes from the road. I follow the German philosophy, A car is for driving, the experience of the road, why do you need cupholders, a cell phone, nav system, tv's, video games, dvd and the like? :D
danny777 11-04-2003, 02:15 PM because americans practically live in their cars. plus all that stuff is "cool".

And pretty much every other car in the GTO's price range offers those features making the GTO a little less of a good value in comparison shopping.
A Nissan 350Z offers those features, similar performance with a V6, and costs less.
Food for thought for Pontiac, and prospective buyers like myself.

German cars offer all those features as well, some of them standard.

The 350Z is a 2-seater. The Infiniti G35 Sport Coupe is a competitor but I don't see the 350Z being in the same group.
Gaijin 11-04-2003, 03:46 PM I like it, especially the rear end with the twin exhaust openings.
FunkyPig 11-04-2003, 09:59 PM Doesnt it have side airbags? Australian versions (both CV6 and CV8) do. That strange, I guess they were trying to get the costs down. Do you realise that it is cheaper for you guys to buy one than us Aussies? A Monaro CV8 is A$57K while a Pontiac GTO converts to A$48K.
Davbo 11-04-2003, 10:08 PM The side air bags were not included because of differences in the regulations here versus Australia.
As far as the price difference goes, it's a pretty standard practice to enter a market with a low price to gain market share. :P Plus, the U.S. is a pretty hyper competitive market. :zap:

Pontiac does per their Media website, and comparisons are already springing up on other forums as people cross shop.
geekoid 11-05-2003, 02:43 AM Could this possibly be the GTO Autocross? I have not seen any pictures of the GTO Autocross yet, even though pictures have been released of the other Pontiac Autocross models. From the details given on the autocross:
"The GTO Autocross also features a more performance-oriented, substantial appearance with a new line of accessories ? available in fall 2004 at GM dealers. The Pontiac GTO Accessories on the show car include front and rear fascia extensions, rocker panel, rear spoiler with integrated CHMSL and symmetrical dual exhaust. "
That seems to cover the exterior differences on the pictures above. This is just a guess on my part though.

You need to compare apples to apples, mate. We don't have GST or luxury tax built into quoted MSRPs, so the difference isn't as big as it appears.
CruisinElvis 11-12-2003, 11:31 AM I believe the 350Z and the GTO are comparable too many people - myself included. I have a family of 5, so really the GTO and Z are out of the picture. If I were to buy 1 - neither of them could carry my full family, so it would be a fun car to have to take the wife out and for me to drive to work. I love the seats in the back of the GTO,but I wish they would offer seating for 3. Come On GM - where are the options...
Hey I live in the soon to be snowy north - does the GTO have any limited slip systems where if the rear tires start slip that control would be sent to the front tires?
Thanks
Rob
CoolBlu04 11-12-2003, 03:43 PM Yes! on the dual exhausts. That's they way they should be on our 04's. Traditional.
Not two outlets side-by-side on the same side looking like one pipe with two outlets. Cheezy. Euro. Not for me.
CoolBlu04 11-12-2003, 03:49 PM CruisinElvis,
GTO is rear wheel / 2wheel drive only. It has traction control (TCS System), that's about as high-tech as the drive system gets. None of this SUV-like snowplowing will be done. Keep your Tahoe. :D
I'm not really thrilled with it. However, I do like the duals off either side in the back, the 18in wheels and the front break vents. I hate the front end and the spoiler.
