The Opel Insignia concept car p.36 of Dec. issue MT has a 344hp LS1, RWD - even MT did not miss the possibilities of a Pontiac or Chevy sport coupe on this platform. Check it out. (Opel/Vauxhaul has a very strong connection with GM, that's where the Catera came from).

The Catera was a flop too. I didn't like the look of that Insignia.

Well, it's still too early to tell but, any chance of the Firebird returning is a good thing.

I doubt a firebird coming back as sister to the Camaro. I beilve the GTO will take that, unless the GTO flops here in the US and they will go to the name firebird. Thats the only way I can see it. That, or they do a delorian and name the solstice the firebird like he would have wanted it.

Im more excited about the camaro coming back!! :woot: <-- me in 07!

I hope they don't bring back the Firebird OR Camaro. I hate when they re-use a old name, and the car has NO similarities from the "old" ones.

Opel has been a fully owned subsidary of GM since the 1930s I believe.

The Insignia is the first Zeta RWD car, and as you probably know the structure was engineered in Australia. The Zeta is the basis for the all the upcoming redesigned large Holdens including the next Monaro and Pontiac GTO.

There is a Chevrolet coupe and convertible planned for it, but whether it will be a resurrected Camaro is still purely speculation. I haven't read anything at all about any Pontiac Zeta cars besides the 2007 GTO.

As someone said earlier.......................
The Camaro is coming back, 2006-2008
The Chevelle has been mentioned - though doubtful sales
The El Camino is likely - although I'm against it

The Firebird is desired by Pontiac but if it does come it will be atleast 20hp and 20tq more than the camaro to prevent cutting into market.
But if they do that its on the page with the GTO, Only other option would be to bring it back in small numbers near Corvette #s
Its looking grim either way.......................................
