djbrianc 03-04-2008, 08:50 PM This is the First design that would make me trade my 2005 GTO. Retro for retro sake is getting passe' Cough CAMARO cough
Orbit Orange 03-04-2008, 09:52 PM Forgot to say thanks for the pics vrbleena. :)

I agree I love it
andyx181x 03-07-2008, 01:34 AM i heard grander news guys: The chief of holden admitted they are most likely going to import this car regardless of how it comes out in the finalization. he said that holden is really depending on most of their income (50%) from exports. so its a good probability this bad boy will be coming to the states, G8 coupe maybe, or maybe the reborn of our GTO!
salbracht 03-07-2008, 09:14 AM Andyx181x ... that's not exactly what he said, according to this GoAuto article ...

What he said was IF they were to build the Coupe60 they would have to rely on exports ... but he did not make any suggestion that a business case exists currently. I have very serious doubts, based on CAFE. It also doesn't bode well that this concept (and he repeated several times that it was just a concept) is quite a bit different than the Camaro, and they most likely would not be able to flex between the two models. Another interesting tidbit ... this is basically the prototype that they were developing back in 2002 to replace the 2004-2006 Monaro (GTO) ... the one that they killed when sales of the GTO/Monaro were less than original projections.
Here's another question ... if they were to greenlight a production version, how long do you think it would take before it would hit the showrooms? Using the Camaro timeline as a reference, I would say that if they greenlighted it today we probably wouldn't see it hit the show rooms before the 2012 or 2013 model years ... by that time the Commodore styling will be at least 5 years old. Once again we would be getting a product late in the styling development cycle.
Too bad ... I really think the Coupe60 looks good.
rockinfig13 03-07-2008, 11:56 PM Very exotic looking. Would look very nice in yellowjacket with a ls7

all valid points but holden's devolpment is much better and faster then any other american devolpement team GM might use for pontiac. if it was a chevy it be done faster, and in this case were GM is desperate to make more cars then SUV and trucks, i have a good feeling they will try to impont this car if it looks decent in final production. i know the CAFE laws are in effect, but if they can get away with on the corvette, and obviously the camaro as well they will, may not be a high ultra V8 but its better then nothing

Spoke with a Holden engineer on Sunday about just this - he said they could do it in two years - remember there's a lot less unique on this than on the Zeta Camaro where every external panel (and also most internal ones) are unique to it.
But if they build it in the States and ship it back here (remember that rumour of some time back) there's probably a slightly bigger job having the factory set up for both Camaro SWB and Monaro/GTO LWB.
I still can't believe they would go to all this trouble and then not find a way to do it.. even a DFI V6 would be okay (maybe tone down some of the boy-racer bits like the dual side exhausts, they'd probably not go on the production version anyway).
salbracht 03-20-2008, 02:02 PM As I suspected ... Lutz, again basically said that the Coupe' 60 concept will not be going to production so that GM can focus on more fuel efficient cars (which I actually think is good news, as I'm hoping for a sporty coupe on the Alpha platform.)
Here's the link (look for the quote at the bottom of the article) :

Pickles 03-22-2008, 04:05 AM This coupe will not be built, & even if it was, would not have a sufficient market in Aus.
We'll be getting Camaro in late 2009, & anyone who thinks there is a big enough market in Aus for Camaro AND Coupe 60 is dreaming.
Cheers, Pickles.
salbracht 04-08-2008, 07:29 PM Here's a good article that talks about the development of the Coupe 60. As I suspected, this is the car that Holden was originally developing as the GTO replacement before the project was shelved back in 2005. (What your looking at here is basically 6 years old already ... or at least the styling was originally penned back then.)

asktk 04-11-2008, 04:18 PM While penned a while ago, I think the design is current enough to attract buyers. Personally I love it - and likewise would consider offloading the Goat for it. Too bad CAFE is killing musclecars just when they started coming back. Since nothing new is coming that competes with the GTO - I'll be hanging on to it and eventually garaging it. How 'bout that new charger - big bucks for Mustang-like performance. Can't wait to dust one.

I heard over here that it wont go into production unless there is a healthy interest for it in the US

The VE Commodore (your G8) was first sketched in something like 1999. We didnt really need to design a car off the last model which has happened in previous generations (before the latest generation, Commodores were penned off of Opel cars from the UK) so they had a clean slate, they did retain some styling cues, but overall it way mostly a new look compared to others. Thats why at first (just my opinion, from a car enthusiast opinion, from viewing like minded peoples thoughts about it) it wasnt really taken to by looks, but when people drove it (I was at a dealership at 830am waiting for them to open, had a sickie from work to be there when they were released to public, booked test drive 2 weeks in advance :)) test driving really changed peoples opinions....I had a high opinion already, because structually mechanically etc, I predicted it would be miles ahead in Commodore terms, regardless of looks)
So after all that waffling on, in short, yes, it was an old sketch. But theres never really a time that a production model changes from the concept that spawned it.
