If you live in west central florida, you may want to check out the Tampa International Auto show this week (Nov. 13-16). They will have a GTO on display.

Lucky me, I live 35 minutes from the show in Tampa. Guess I'll have to go check it out.

back from the show. Was a red six speed with red interior. Car had no number of the front headlight. Pics should be up tomorrow. Lots of very high res pics. No orange peel at all was apparent (unlike the porsche cayenne which looked like crap)

Ruski,

That makes 3 or 4 converts from Edmunds. Hmmm. Maybe I shouldn't have gotten myself banned. Nah. I should of long ago.

tiggerfan,

Glad to hear about the lack of orange peel. I still see it in pix from time to time. Even the GM Media release ones have it. Glad to see it's not really there in person.

If it is there, it isn't that bad. I was extrememly disappointed with how bad it looked on the cayenne. I mean to roll a car to an auto show with pain that was THAT bad was silly. To do it with a black car which really shows orange peel was even worse. To do it on a car that people are going to be paying 90G on is just asanine. Pics will be up in a couple of hours.

I'm going to add a comment about the orange peel situation on show cars specifically. I worked at a shop one summer in college where we took stock cars off the line, stripped them down, bondoed them up to match all panel lines perfectly on the body panels and put a multi-layer paint job on the cars - much better than the original stock paint. Much of the time, these cars were turned very quickly - like in a week or so. We did mostly GM cars - but some for each of the OEM's that summer.

I'd be willing to guess that all the manufactures do similar. The bright lights, hundreds of thousands of people touching the cars, opening and closing doors over and over and over again - it's just not good for the stock paint - and they want them to look extra pretty.

Anyway, if they are having this done - a poor job of this could cause the orange peel and it could have absolutely nothing to do with the normal painting process a car would see.

Tigger,

I'll thank you here as well for the beautiful red on red pictures. I'm using one as my desktop pattern now. Again many thanks! :eatarrow:
