COOL GTO

I was looking at the engine pics of our cars...I see that the air box is in a "reasonable" spot but why such as big bend in that throttle body tube? I would call that a very-poor design in need of some attention...I would guess you could gain up to 10HP and even more TQ by removing that setup and putting something else in its place...Do you LS1 guys have a fix for this??? Personally I'm not sure if its really going to matter. I just got my chevy hi po magazine (yeah I know, its not Pontiac etc etc shoot me.) Anyway, they had a chevelle I believe with a 502 ram jet crate engine with the air intake tube bending just as much and I think it was a smaller tube. I guess my point is if that has enough air to feed a fuel injected big block I don't think the LS1 is going to exactly be starving for air. You might be able to free up a few horses as long as you keep it a true cold air intake.

It's true that a short straight shot is optimal on a naturally aspirated car. It is also true that the 04 GTO intake is very restrictive. Our dyno testing of a '03 Monaro w/ 270 hp showed a 13rwhp gain and 17-20ft/lb. torqe increase with our GTO intake. Since the GTO produces 350hp w/ a better flowing exhaust system and deeper breathing cams, we expect as much as 20rwhp might be gained on the GTO, but we'll soon find out. While our CAI does not eliminate the need for the air to make a 90* bend, it does increase the outer curve's radius as well as the internal volume to help solve this problem. Optimally, there would need to be a F-body-like CAI which we're planning on researching. Ultimately I think we will forego this route though as the pickup would be tenths of a h.p. in most situations.
