After today the skid plate will never come off the vehicle (except for oil changes and maybe a track run) and I'll never buy one of those lightweight ones either. Why???....
On a leisurely drive on some country backroads I come over a rise and there is a mound of blacktop in the center of the road. (Dips on either side of it). I don't have time to stop or swerve so I dead center it. Well, WHUMP, I caught it. Took it back home and inspected and the center hump of the skidplate is scuffed and scraped down to the metal. (No dent by the way). It also looks like it just caught the edge of the midpipe gasket connecting to my cat back because it is bent. Flange appears to be fine. Appears to be no leaks or dents in the exhaust (knock on wood). So I hope a dodged a costly bullet today. Two lessons, ill repaired country roads are off limits and the heavy steel skid plate is there for a reason. And it will stay there on mine. :)
