How much time does this cut off the 1/4 mile? How much 0-60? Just curious?

Assuming you did the test on a well prepped track where traction could be utilized I'd say that the LS6, compared to the LS1 would cut off between 2 and 4 tenths. Some will argue that it might be more by using the rough equation that typically works on 13-14 second cars of: 10 h.p.= 1 tenth. While I do find that to be relatively true in some cases, the GTO will already be a low-mid 13 second car, right about where that equation starts to fall apart. Of course the best way to asses this would be to put it in a 1/4 software program using regular C5 dyno charts graphed against a Z06 dyno chart, but putting the weight in as that of the GTO. If I get some time later I might play around with that....Anyone care to beat me to it?

I guess the reason I ask is this: The car "as is" is relatively inexpensive for all of what you get in terms of performance...If you have to shell out say $43,000.00 to get an Auto Cross / SLP JUDGE (421HP)or whatever you wish to call it - How much are you really getting for your money??? If you have to shell out say $38,000.00 to get a 400HP version. Is that going to be a better deal???...etc...etc...at some point we all have to make a decision...buy now...or forego for later...to "get more"...ie for example...how much better is it to have the "SS" model Camero over the regular Z-28? Those SS's cost big - but - What do you really get???

Its one of those things........Its already a "Fast" car, so to make it much faster really takes a LOT of power increases, or major weight reductions.
Everything helps, but the results just show up in smaller ammounts.

Since I know practically nothing I am keeping a notebook for my references. It seems that you can do that first 50 HP for about $50 per pony. After that it runs about $100 per pony up to 600 HP. Then it really starts to climb at over $200 per pony. These are rough figures I admit but seem to hold fairly well.

Very interesting...I was thinking of buying the "basic" model and perhaps upgrading the Throttle Body (If there is such an item up for sale) putting in two "high flow" cats and upgrading the mufflers for sound. Also - I was thinking that the car will need a good CAI and perhaps some "chip technology"...That is about it...as far as cams and all that...nah..too much work...the only other thing on my mind would be a reliable roots based supercharger...at approx $4,000.00 after the warrenty expires...3 years / 36...but instead of all that bs...I could be "woo'ed" by an offering by Pointiac of a 400 HP model at or near $37/$38k...Do you think Pontiac will price the "upgraded" model within reach???

well i own a gts monaro...sorry gts coupe with the 300kw/ 402hp ( i think) callaway engine and is quicker (just) than the hsv gto coupe with 255kw but i have heard of a chick that goes to the same strip as me with the cv8 monaro that has run a 12.9. im not to sure if this is true as i havent seen it myself but apparently her car has 336kw and all she has done is piggy backed the standard comp with a motec comp and added a sprintex supercharger only pumping in 7psi and that cost her $9000AUS but with a decent boost controller, intercooler etc the skys the limit.

I agree with most of this except for weight reduction. As mentioned over and over again, this car is, well, big-boned. If you are really about performance, lose the stereo, take the power seats out and replace them with some Sparco's or something. Lose the carpet panels in the trunk and the noise dampening shield on the hood. That's the same .2 to .4 in the 1/4 mile without spending much money at all. Heck - you could probably pull the rear seats to the front and spend none - if we are talking about a track only car. Not to mention losing the cats is weight...

Now, since my car is to be driven on the road, and I want the comforts none of this will happen. But especially if we are talking drag racing - weight reduction is relatively simple and cheap on this car and will get you the most bang for the buck right off the bat.

CTS-V will supposedly do it in 4.6 secs, of which I am doubtful.
let's say 4.9 secs.
GTO is 100 lbs lighter and has a 3.46gear vs CTS-Vs 3.73 gear.
So when the GTO gets 400 hp it should be the equal of the CTS-V.
