anybody put headers on a 6.0? if so-what brand headers and exhaust did u go with? the car came with a Borla cat-back but i like to go from headers back and would like some input before buying.

I went with the JBA shorties but only because of the stupid smug rules in CA, I would go with kook long tube with cat-less mids if you could, they look and sound great plus you will get 7 to 10 hp over the shorties when stock and if you plan to go with a cam later down the road LT is the way to go. Good luck

About a month or so ago I had Kooks 1 3/4 headers with catted mids installed and got dyno tuned as well.I have a custom Spintech Super Pro catback also.

If you don't drive the car in bad weather I'd just go with coated Pacesetter headers.I went with Kooks because the GTO is the only car I own and I drive it all the time.

Hey GTOgirl read my post Holy Nightmare Batman...not to scare you of course but it might help if you get longtubes.

Long tubes like Kooks and Pacesetters can be a PITA to install. JBA shorties are a piece of cake. Yet you'll get better gains with long tubes.

We used the SLP L/T and they went in without a hitch. Took us a day. Four jack stands and an occasional break so we wouldn't wear ourselves out.

i got the slp with ceramic coat. do a combo with a cai, headers, highflow cats and tune. you'll have a cheesy smile after those mods.

I have the pacesetter longtubes and I am very happy with them. They were a bit time consuming to install but I enjoy a good challange. I was very happy with the sound and performance gain. I think they are the best bang for your buck. I would recommend getting the coated version if your GTO is a daily driver.

Holy crap dude, how did you do it with four jack stands? I thought you'd need at least a couple feet clearance to remove the headers and such. I have an 04 as well and am considering the SLP L/T...wasn't too bad huh? What would say was the most difficult part of the install?

i did the SLP LTs on jack stands. it was a bit of a PITA but doable. for the OP don't forget if you do headers to figure in a tune too

That's good to know. In regards to the tune, it would most likely have to be at a shop right? Would the handheld tuners have something in it for headers?

Another completely unrelated question I thought I might ask. I was looking at electric cutouts for the track or something. Out of curiosity, if I put new headers on and had cutouts welded in - when I opened them up, would my engine throw a code because of the redirected exhaust? Didn't know if there was something in a tuning that could account for that change.

I installed Kooks Lts with a lift by myself, I would advise having a friend to help tweak everything once installed....love the results.

if you have a decent level of mechanical aptitude a header install is really cake. the hardest part is dropping the steering rack, and that's not really that big of a deal.

SLP longtubes gave me a loud aggresive sound, pricey though

I have no idea what brand of longtubes I have. They were on the car when I bought it. It will be interesting when it comes time to smog.

I don't know that you will have issues with emissions testing relative to long tube headers...as long as you have catalytic converters. Maybe I am wrong?

Technically L/T are illegal but since it has cats it may be okay as long as they are leinient on the visual. Cams might be another issue.
