JUST SIGNED ON SO EXCUSE IF THIS IS A TIRED QUESTION BUT i AM SEEING MANY CONTRADICTIONS TO WHAT i AM ABOUT TO SAY SO I HAVE TO ASK

What does it take to get decent gas mileage in an 04 LS1 A-4 GTO? The car is completely stock and has 17k one owner miles on it. I get about 14.1 MPG around town driving it like an old lady!

I had an 07 vette that got 19-22 city all day long and i do realize that this car has an old school tranny with no overdrive or fuel management but 14 mpg is not even acceptable for burning skin out of every light!

Is there an easy fix? Some are saying that adding CAI does just the opposite
when installed without the combination of some other things. What is the story?
I want to drive and have fun too but not be pulling in for juice every three or four days.

I have aptly named my torrid red goat JUMPIN JACK FLASH.......i

seriously. Lean Cruise is an Aussie feature that only found it's way here on the '04s. with tuning software you can enable it and it "leans out" the air fuel ratio from 14.7/1 up to 16-17/1 under light load type highway conditions. it will bump your highway mileage up 10-13%

Just curious, how would cruising at that level of 'lean-ness' affect the engine in the long run? Wouldn't it run hotter, poor lubrication, detonation, deposits, i.e.; the things normally associated with running an engine lean?
