: got new tires finally
andyx181x 08-31-2009, 11:33 PM One of the OEM tires had a bad tire patch for a while, and it was steadily losing air everyday so the best I can get were Dunlop Direzza DZ101. The tires are a huge improvement, as the power steering really became a lot smoother and the tires are telling more of the road. For most reviewers the tires haven't worked out well for their cars, but for the GTO they are working really well.
Orbit Orange 09-01-2009, 06:48 AM They are what I have and they are pretty decent. Haven't had the problems I had with my BFG's or with the stock tires.

Awesome I have someone who can relate, I wanted to get the Star Specs Z-1 but they been discontinued and these were the best the shop could find me. For 150 a piece with instillation and balance included, it was a great deal. With the Bridgestones the steering felt a little sluggish and always looked sumped, the Dunlops are so tight and the steering is so much smoother. It's like brand new sneakers that work, and seeing probability of rain is like going to be none here in Cali should be no problems.
Orbit Orange 09-01-2009, 02:32 PM Yes I would rank these the best of the 3 sets I've had. Wet traction is decent as well. They wear fairly quick, I'll need a new set probably next spring or summer, about 2 years of use. I'll check to see how many miles I have on them. I'm pleased with them.

That's good to know, I'm sure your a more aggressive drive then me; maybe make them chirp more then I do but this set should last me for my last year and half of college. Btw what models of the BFG did you had? I wanted to get the g-Force T/A KDW 2 but the best my guy could get them for me was 170 just six dollars cheaper then tirerack.com
cowboyili 09-01-2009, 07:51 PM Glad to see discussion on this. I'm on the stock tires and I'm really hating the feel of the road. Not sure if they're worn bad, I rotate every 6k. I'm going to try the Direzza's next. I'm pretty upset...I took her to the track for the first time over the weekend. Check engine came on en route and went off on the way home - go figure. Turned out to be a MAF reading issue (too lean on both sides) and I think it was the K&N oil on the sensors so I cleaned it up. Anyway, with stock setup the best time I got was 14.3 - not what I was hoping for. I'm gonna keep working on it tho, I love this car.
cowboyili 10-10-2009, 07:32 PM Okay, so I didn't get Direzza's. I actually went with Goodyear GT's. From the get go, I notice all of my steering shake and crappy handling disappeared. The ride is smooth and straight, and it almost makes the car feel like I had a new power steering rack put in. My turns are effortless and smooth - no pulling or anything. I'm always amazed at what a set of new tires can fix. I had the BFG's last time - killed those in 11 months. Anyone have the Goodyear GT's - tell me anything about how well they hold up? My next mod will be the radius rods bushings. Don't want to kill the inside of these tires with strut rub.
Orbit Orange 10-11-2009, 09:29 AM Care to share how much paid? Pic of the tread? Regardless, the BFG's were crap when new, I had the same problems. RR bushings are an easy install. Get out there and enjoy. :)
andyx181x 10-11-2009, 02:58 PM Its' pretty crazy how much power steering control is given back on a new set of tires, those Bridegstones were so sluggish.
cowboyili 02-09-2010, 12:02 PM Late response.. I believe I paid about 800 for all new tires installed. Sadly I totaled the car a week later and now I'm goin to need to get a new set for my new 06. The Goodyear gf's definately felt much better on the power steering and overall ride. Seeing as my tires spun out and threw me into a wall - Im not sure if I can attest to the traction. I liked them while I had them though. I think I need to try direzza's next.
Orbit Orange 02-13-2010, 11:23 AM My worn Direzza's even give me decent traction in the cold. Notice I say decent as when they cool down their traction qualities are reduced. Take it easy out there hate to see another GTO bite the dust or even worse see you injured. Spring will come soon. ;)
cowboyili 02-14-2010, 12:57 PM good advice. im spending the winter getting it back to a bit better than stock condition... new brakes, new tires, cold air intake, new plugs & wires, etc. when the summer comes im going to throw a loudmouth catback on it and that should get me started. trust me, being involved in an accident at such a high speed like that really changes your driving habits. im actually usually going about 60 mph around curves now. i love the car, hoping to keep it with me for 10-20 years if not longer. that means next winter I will have a winter car haha. but ya - im stoked to have a better engine to play around with and I will certainly post pictures of my totaled GTO and the new '06 soon.
Triston345 03-22-2010, 05:22 AM keep it up man very well post. i wish you Good Luck for your better Future
