I posted this earlier in the GTO thread, but I think it may be better suited in here.

I've got a small problem here guys. My current 97 Grand Prix GTP is on it's way out with ~100,000 miles on it and am looking to get a GTO to replace it. My problem is, I have to wait until I graduate from college in May to get a new car as my parents are hinting they will pay a significant chunk of the bill as part of my graduation present. I almost ordered a GTO over the summer until they convinced me to wait by telling me this. My question is, what is the best way to make sure I will be able to get ahold of a new GTO come May? I'm hoping my GTP is going to last that long, but I have been having little things here and there going wrong which keeps costing me ~$500 a pop to fix and I am really excited about the GTO. Any help or suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim

Jim,
You need to order it now as it will probably take that long to get it. Since your parents are willing to help you out, if it comes in early, apply that money to your payments till you get your job. I call this creative financing. If you want something bad enough, you will figure how to get it!

Good Luck and congats on your degree. I'm sure your parents are very proud of you. How do I know? My Daughter graduates at Thankgiving time. She just bought a new 04 full option Cavlier, roof, xm, chrome wheels etc. With a $4000 rebate we couldn't afford to buy a used one considering the warranty etc.

Absolutley order it now!!! Rumors are that they have already received over the 18,000 alottment. If you can find one it probably won't deliver until Spring. Worst case scenario is you're on the top of the list for an '05.

What is the best way to go about ordering one? Just call up my local Pontiac dealer and tell them I want to order? Should I go in and order one? I am away at school in West Lafayette, IN but I am from Orland Park, IL. We have a pretty good Pontiac dealer here, Mike Raisor Pontiac, or should I wait till I go home for Thanksgiving in 2 weeks and attempt to order? Or call around now? Is there a way I can find out who the biggest dealers in the Chicagoland area are? Cause won't they have the best chance to get me one?

Thanks for all your help.

Jim

Call around starting with who you like best. It may be difficult to find one don't order you find one for MSRP. If no luck just keep trying. I know in my area (Western Washington) they are all gone.

Such hysteria...6 in 10 Dont like the syling of the 2004 GTO!!! What's worse is that every single one of the 6 "guff" at the fact that it was not a "home grown" car!!! They all say "That's no GTO!!!" There could be troube here folks...What would happen if the car does not "really" produce the advertised 350HP especially with it already tagged as "beefey" in weight??? I would be 150% willing to sit on the sidelines and wait for this to shake out...I just dont want to put that kinda cash on the line...sight on-seen for ANY car much less a car produced by the fine automakers that brought you the ASSTECH...I really want to have my car N O W but I can wait...Only you and me (on this site) know that the car is really Corvette like, etc, etc...This car will be a collectors item - no doubt about it - However some other collector items would include the "Edsel"...

It certainly won't be worse than a Holden Monaro which is a pretty **** nice car.

You have to believe in Lutz...he made or ok'd the changes to bring the car to the US...The Holden folks are not going to be responsible for this...Lutz is 'da man...What do you think of the 2004 GTP???

Apparently I fall outside of the 10 - because I could care less whether it is home grown or not or a GTO or not - I like the car, I didn't have so sign anything so if I wouldn't have liked it when I actually saw it I wasn't out anything, and I've seen it now - it looks better in person - and I still am not obligated to buy it when it comes it if the month and a half worth of cars have problems before mine gets here.
