Well as most of you know I have a yellow 6-spd coming very shortly. I ordered the car from the dealership I work at. Yesterday they where able to get a commitment of $3k over MSRP from a customer for my car. Now upper management was nice enough to "ask" if I would give up my car. Their offer is to use another car from inventory and get me a replacment (dealer trade one GTO for one for me). What would you do? Keep in mind this will probably score some major points at work and will work heavily in my favor when it comes to price of my GTO.

The other thought I have is this will open up the opportunity to get another color besides yellow. I was thinking about switching to purple now that I've seen it.

Any thoughts??

I forgot to notice where you are from but if it was me I'd take the deal and wait for a dealer trade because the weather is going to be crappy until spring anyway and you can save the money, make points at work, and possibly see another color you like better than yellow. Hell, if I had any patience I'd wait myself for an '05, maybe they'll do something about the trunk space and no hood scoop.

I just went back and checked and never mind about the weather thing in AZ. B)

I know this has to be a hard decision for you Howie. You have been looking forward to your GTO for some time now.

Looking at the entire situation, my decision would be to let this GTO go. It is not like you will not get one. You will just have to wait longer for it. And, as you stated, you may get a price break on it.

It is a tough call. After waiting this long for the GTO, having to wait even longer can be a hard thing to take.

Bad idea, making points, read SUCKER. Points cost employers nothing and if there isn't anything in writing you can get nothing. If you are ok with this then tell them that your willing to go along with it as long as there is something in it for you. After all, its not like they can guarantee they will be able to get a car for you, just that they will try. Also, if you refuse they are out $3000 so get 25% of that for you by telling them you'll do it if they knock $750 off your car and get it in writing. They still come out $2250 ahead. I say this because I've heard the we won't forget this crap way to many times. I just don't normally have any leverage to do anything about it. You do.

I agree with digitalgod. Unless you get it in writing, I think it is a bad idea.

I don't think it's a bad idea if you can wait and you are rethinking your color choice. HOWEVER, I would not "take one for the team" without getting something in return (like a discount) and as others before me have said.....get it in writing.

Tell the customer you will be glad to order his GTO and he can wait patiently like everyone else. :D

Seriously though, its up to you I don't think we should really sway your opinion. It all comes down to your situation, how much you want it etc. Nothing we can help you with I don't think. We would just tell you what we would do. (I'd go insane.)

You'd be a FOOL to even consider this....

You know if you do this......... This GTO is gone, no big deal. Then when "Yours" comes in they'll do the same thing to you. But this time you will have NO option. They will sell it out from under you, and you will have nothing but a Job that you HATE because they screwed you on TWO GTO's.
Tell your boss a deal is a deal, an they should sell the second one to the person offering big $$$$$$$$$$$.

I guess it depends how much you want them to walk on you.

Well, I let the first yellow one go and have already secured a replacement from a dealer across town. Got a great price on it and everything played in my favor at work. I'll only have to wait an extra week to get my yellow 6-spd. Thanks for the responses!!
