Bear with me here.

We have all see the post about the 2005 pilot cars.

GM's contract with the UAW and Holden's limited capacity calls for a maximum of
18,000 GTO's a year.

There is nothing that says they have to build 18,000
2004 GTOs!!!

The lack of hood scoops and dual exhaust seems to be a problem
for many.

GM could very well end 2004 production early and start
building 2005s this Spring!!!!

Think about it.

Any comments?

The lack of hood scoop doesent bother me, maybe once I start seeing them I'll change my opinion.

Exhaust, I'm sure SLP or another company will come out with something soon, I put 20K on my camaro before I changed mine.

Are you just assuming that this is a possibility or is there a real chance that this will happen. I don't see why they should have trouble selling 18,000 GTOs... If they do stop before that, it just goes to show it was a bad idea for GM to rush the production and not make a GTO that appeals to more people. I'm sure everyone who bought one here wouldn't mind hood scoops, if executed correctly, some visible dual exhaust, and maybe just some minor body changes. I really don't think they will stop production early, but it doesn't seem out of the question. I think if they are not selling like GM hoped, stop production and concentrate on making the '05 model better. But I just don't think they won't sell 18,000 of these things.

In July, Jim Wangers told me that he was told that they would only build 16,700. I don't know if that still holds true or not.

I am the only person on here from Washington State (at least the only one to admit it) and I know that there were no preorders left in the dozen or so dealers that I called in August. There are also a lot of people that are not computer junkies!!

I think there are one or two others on here from Iowa (yeah, I know) but I know as of last weekend, our local big dealer had about 5 GTO's NOT spoken for (out of 9). I think 2 or 3 people backed out, becuase the last I heard back in September was that they only had 2 left. Hmmm........

04 production seems to be getting pushed back more and more.

I got my name on one in August. Was told it would be built in Nov and delivered around first of the year.

That was changed to December build/Jan/Feb delivery.

NOW they tell me January build, March delivery.

What's going on? If the build is going that slow, they won't be able to get anywhere near 18,000 built before they have to go to 05 production.

And for anyone thinking "collector" status for a low production run 04, remember that "low numbers" to a collector mean well under 1000! if they only build 6000 or 8000 04's (and they likely will get more than that) the collector status of the 04 won't be very good.

Just addressing this point before people get excited about it!

I have been dealing (as an enthusiast, appraiser etc) in old cars for about 20 years now and didn't put my name on an 04 GTO to get a collector car, I want to drive something fun and fast before I get too old or the insurance companies kill our fun, like they did in the 70's!

Don
would have preferred they make the car look more like the 65 GTO, but if Wangers says it drives well enough to make you forget the boring body, then that is good enough for me.

This is the normal time of the year for next MY pilots to be run. For instnace the Corvette plant is currently closed to public plant tours because they are running '05 pilots at differnt time this month. This is nothing new.
