Got to the dealers today at 3:00pm. My car was waiting for me at the front door. Test drove it, bought it and drove it for the next 5 hours.

THIS IS THE REAL DEAL.

THE WAIT IS WELL WORTH IT. WHEN I WAS DRIVING THIS CAR I THOUGHT I WAS DREAMING IT IS THAT GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THESE CARS WILL GET RESPECT ON THE STREET, THERE IS NOTHING ANYONE CAN SAY THAT CAN BRING THIS CAR DOWN, NOTHING!

This car is so F-ing badass in person. The feel, the look, the sound PERFECT.

They did not cut any corners on this car. You can literally get it up to 120 and not even notice. Yes, I did go that fast on the freeway at 1:30am. took it up there for a few and brought her back down. This thing is a Mustang Killer for sure. The Torque on this car will blow you away. I was getting looks from all sorts of people in this car. A few people in pontiacs actually followed me for a while just staring at it. I was driving it and I happend to pull up to a Cobra. This guy looks over, looks back then revs his engine HARD. We both took off, nobody won though, too many cars infront of us a little ways down and another red light. I will have pics up asap, inside and out.

The trunk isnt too small. Its quite fine for someone that doesnt need to haul a lot of luggage... but thats not what this cars for anyways. The handling of this car is and speed of this beast are unbelievable. Handles like a dream. When you take off from a stop, if you hit the pedal ever so slightly this thing just wants to jump, it wants to so bad that its sqweels out the back tires. This car means business. And the best thing about it, This car looks both MEAN and FAST yet Luxurious and a Sleeper at the same time. It looks mean enough to pull up to a mustang or someone and they know your car could kill them, yet a cop might not even notice it which is a good thing.

I was driving and a F-ing Rabbit runs across the road late tonight.
Nobody was on the road at the time, i had to swerve into the other lane and back to miss it. This car does exactly what you want it to do, QUICKLY. I was able to avoid the rabbit and get back into my lane in 2 seconds and the car responded and handled perfectly when i dodged around the rabbit. In my truck i probebly wouldve had to just run it over, since my truck cant handle like that. im glad i didnt hit it, that wouldve sucked to get that nastyness all over my car!

At 90mph a little flashing signal goes off on the digital mph readout display and it beeps 3 times then goes off. I want to figure out a way to disconnect this. It can get annoying but nothing the stereo cant drown out! The soundsystem in this car is great but i'd have to say that when turned up at fullblast its still not loud enought For me. I dont know if i'll get a new system in it though, its still PLENTY good. There are a lot of controls on this car (dash and wheel), so reading the manual seems to be the only way to ever figure out what everything actually does. One thing is i didnt know is theres no button for the locks inside, if you pull up the lock manually on the driver side, the passenger one opens. I actually knew more than the salesman about this thing which was kinda cool heh, thx on that guys. I also bought lowjack for the car, and the guys coming to the house in a few days to install it. They tried to charge us 650 for it, but we "jewed" em down heh on the price to what they got it for @ 420. I also was given their one and only 20X20 poster of the blk/blk GTO and Brochure and they even took my picture with it and are sending me a free GTO calender with my pic on the inside and some other cool stuff. The dealer wants me to come back tomorrow to go over the inside of it AGAIN with me since he says he feels bad he didnt have a lot of time to get inside it and figure it all out, since I did get there 30 minutes after they installled the brake pads, cleaned and detailed it... i think he just wants me to come back so HE can check it out again lol. alright thats enough, im out.

All hail Danny!!

I could not tell from your post whether you have an M6 or A4. Whichever, please describe the experience. If its an M6, how is the 2-3 shift under hard acceleration? (F-body had a real hard time with that one.)

Does it have a redundant 3rd brake light in the rear window? (considering "spoil-delete" on mine).

Can you/will you be getting the car dyno'd or 1/4'd any time soon? - the ultimate questions need to be finally answered.

I don't know why I'm even asking these questions since you're gonna be driving ALL weekend!!

Congratulations!

Lowjack is a GPS tracking system to locate your car if stolen. Really the only part of Onstar I'd want anyway. This will be the first thing done to my car when I receive it also.

I am skeptical about anythign that lets people know where I am. I don't want to start conspiracy theories here but it just is not a good thing to me to be able to be tracked. I do not plan to do anything that is wrong but hey the more invisible you can be I say the better.

Thanks for the info though. I will probably not be getting the "Lowjack" feature.

Well, personally I would rather have somebody be able to find this car if it gets stolen than worry about somebody being able to 'track me down'. Onstar allows a car to be shut off by the police in addition to the tracking - all the lojack does is allow location of the car if stolen. Do you use a cell phone? You can potentially be tracked by that also...

Us aussies are finding that giving the cars a hard time from day one produces more power, and beds the rings in correctly. There are 38 Monaros in our club, and half have been driven hard since day one, with more power at our dyno day, and the other half are babied, down on power, and have oil consumption problems.
They are not, in any way, pre-run in at the factory. What good is driving under 2000rpm, with synthetic oil, for a new motor?
Get the oil changed to a good quality mineral based oil, and stick with that for the first 20,000kms (whatever that is in miles...).

You shouldn't keep it under 2000rpms but going wot right away isn't good either. If it sets the rings better I don't know, but I wouldn't be going crazy. Also for those of us (most I hope) that order six speeds. Please be nice to your clutch the first few hundred miles. I promise you it will like you a lot more. :)

Just like everything else, it seems fast at first and then you'll get used to it and it will feel slow and you'll be modding it. Go in stages - if you go all out at first you'll get used to it sooner and won't recognize each stage of modification. My first car was an 87 Z24 and I thought that was quick. I upgraded to an S10 SS, then an Impala SS, then a GN, and then a Vette. I laugh thinking back how I thought all these cars were fast when I bought them. Now I have to modify to make them "feel" quick again. It's a disease.

What is this about installing brake pads?

Also as another person asked, M6 or A4?

When you pass 90 and it starts beeping, what is shown on the display?

A little 90 in a cirlce pops up and beeps telling you your going past 90. it is very easy to change though. you can set it at 10mph or 160 mph whatever you want. i put mine at 120mph.

yes the dealer had to put brake pads on... why? i dont know...

i got the A4. San Diego/ SO CAL traffic can be horrendous and i drive in a lot of it. so i opted for the manual, this is my daily driver and i dont even know how to drive stick... so auto for me.

Isn't anyone else really perplexed that the dealer had to install brake pads before delivery? Was this some quiet recall that Pontiac is doing before any GTO gets delivered? Obviously you can't drive a car without any pads, can't even load/unload it from the rail car or semi trailer.

You should see the 7 page memo Pontiac sent out in regards to the PDI process for this car! Brake pads are just of of the many things that need to be done, Most of the "extra" procedures are due to the shipping from Aussie.

Sounds like just an amazing car, I'm really interested in the performance of the A4 because with the North Jersey traffic and all the lights that point up hill + winter snow I might be better off buying another auto.

What color? & interior color?

sounds great, hopefuly it wont feel slow any time soon.

Side note, one of my friends has a 03 C5 M6 and he is now complaining that it could use an extra 50hp.

i am not sure of the details , but judging from this pic there is obviously something that gets done to the brakes...

quite frankly, i don't know how they drive them on and off the ships with the discs/rotors covered in plastic or whatever that stuff is in the first place.

They might put some kind of plastic to keep them from warping because they dont get driven much. I dont know, I dont care, as long as it stops when I need it to.

How easily does the A4 want to spin the tires? that kinda improtant to me, granted you must have to turn off some ASR or traction control.

I checked out the pic, pretty car. B)

when you step on the gas from a stand still in this car, it will squeel out the back tires.

another thing, i dont know if this is in most cars, ive never felt it, but when going around a turn kinda fast and you push down on the gas, it wont let you push it down any farther than a certain point, you can feel the resistance on it until you straighten out. i think this is a safety measure so you dont spin the car out??...

That is the traction control system kicking in. If you had it off you would be spinning the tires. The harder it kicks in, the more the tires are trying to spin. You are probably right that you'd be breaking the rear end loose if you turn the traction control off.
I think the big question is - if you turn the traction control off and punch it in a straight line, how much tire smoke do you get?

wait, is there a pic of yours now danny?

anyway, if you want to race it, tape up the VIN on the dash, and take your plate off or something. that way people can say anything.

as far as mods, id get exhaust and an intake probably right off the bat.

if its an M6, get a nice shifter too, like a Hurst.

but other than that, i probably wouldnt mod it up until GTO specific mods started coming out. I will bet lots of money that someone is going to have an exhaust setup that will split the tailpipes in the rear soon enough...

only flaw i can find is the acc. power outlets in the console. guess GTO owners will need either really long radar detector cords, or battery powered ones. oh well, hopefully the cop that would pull you over would be like "nice car, light em up on the way out of here" and let you go. :D

You know I worked for a local Dallas Area PD for about 2 years and I always did ride alongs with this one cop who was a big car guy. When he would pull someone over too look at their car, (he did often) he would always ask them to try to make 15-20 ft tire marks when leaving or else he would write them a ticket (he was joking btw). Great guy fun to ride with. I've seen Ford PI's do things that would make your jaw hit the floor.

bty for your speeding pleaseures here are the top speeds for Popular copcars from the 2002 Michigan state police vehicle tests:

Ford PI:----------------129
chevy Impala:---------124
Dodge Intrepid:------- 135
Hummer H1:-------------83
Chevy camaro auto:---159
Chevy tahoe:------------98
Dodge durango:--------114
Ford Expedition:--------105
Ford Excursion:----------93
Ford Explorer:----------105

all vehicles test w/o equipment so take anywhere form 5 to 15 mph off the top for a fully equpped car with lightbar etc
But remember nothing outruns a motorola!!!

Houston dealers are getting some tonight and tommorow. I might trade my AMG Merc in on one. That idler pulley is begging to be replaced by a Vortech aftercooled unit! Drooool on the interior

El Cheapo Wheels would look better on an '87 Cadillac Cimmeron.

I'm thinking '90-96 Vette ZR-1 style A-mold wheels like takeoffs from an SLP '98 SS Camaro would look better? Black Vette GS wheels?

Thanks for the update. I have recently placed a $500 deposit on a Torrid Red with Black interior, with the M6 Transmission. As most who are monitoring this
WebSite are living through your experiences, please keep us up-to-date with any of your experiences ( Plus or Minue ).
How did you get the LowJack price down by a few hundred dollars ?
How much did LowJack reduce your Insurance Rates ?.

Also, this car, as strong as it is, won't beat all of the mustangs on the road.
The Motor Trend 12/2003 issue clearly states that, as well as the sacrifice you
would pay for the overall driving capabilities if you did have a mustang.
This appears to be a great car to own, as well as one which will provide loads of fun.......

OK , To the Power gains.......Understand you get a slightly higher lift cam than the Monaro. The Pipes you get are OK i beleive, dont know about the headers. You will gain up to 25-50hp through a thorough ECU edit - LS1 Edit programme.

LS1 Edit Australia has already made the below package the GTO - Its rated at 350rwhp - FYI - Your cars are rated at 260kw for Export, I would expect this package to give you a gain of 15%+ through the whole rev range.

Quote:

350RWHP "KID GOAT"

Based on our Aussie 400hp GTS configuration, KIDGOAT gives a hefty performance gain by doing away with the intrusive GTO torque management system, recalibrating fuel/ignition timing, and replacing the restrictive MAF meter with a smooth cast plastic pipe through to the airbox. Rear wheel power and torque gains (adjusted for US Dynojet calibration) are impressive, as is the high 12 second quarter mile potential with the right exhaust system. Kit including replacement tuned PCM, induction tube, and rubber hose only USD $1200.

www.ls1edit.com.au

Un Quote

They have some excellent headers to suit you GTO's (LHD) and are well regarded here, with a wealth of experience in getting these Heavy LS1 powered weapons really hauling.

Oh - and if i could make a suggestion, you US guys will want some better brakes than OEM, which are rubbish once they wear out you'll want some of these

http://www.harrop.com.au/products/brakes/holden.html

All the R&D has been done, HARROP has an excellent name here with years of developing parts for V8 Supercars and HSV.

What about suspension ? Quadrant Suspension in Melbourne developed a Custom Spring / Bilstien shock set up for the Monaro (GTO) which was used by Peter Brock (Australian V8 touring car god) with great sucess in the Targa Tasmania (Famous tarmac rally) to great effect.

http://www.quadrantsuspensions.com.au

Come down to LS1.com.au to learn more about your new beast - Its known here as a Monaro and shares most parts Inc engine/driveline with the Holden Commodore SS/HSV.

Just about anything you need to know , i can pretty much guarantee we will have an answer!!

Danny,

As most of us are in "Wait for Delivery Mode", can you comment on the Sound of the Exhaust System. I have read alot about how much effort was taken to produce the actual sound from it. How loud is it ?

From within the car, can you hear the radio without blasting it. ????

I believe the car is plenty fast enough with respect to the 350 HP.
The real issue is if you can get the car moving forward, rather then melting the

Any off-of-the-line experiences you can share will be helpful.

They tried to charge us 650 for it, but we "jewed" em down heh on the price to what they got it for @ 420.

"Jewed em down"? This is clearly a derogatory and offensive remark against people of the Jewish faith. I wouldn't think the webmasters would want a dope who makes remarks like this testifying about the new GTO.

This coming from "Art Vandelay". Clearly a Seinfeld reference. So you're a Seinfeld fan. When Seinfeld spent a whole half hour making Jewish jokes did you find that offensive too?

Not saying what he said isn't slightly offensive, just wondering where you draw the line.

I'm not that easily offended myself. I was just surprised to see that the webmaster would feature a post like that in their news section. The original poster didn't sound all that bright to begin with and that Jewish remark just kinda sealed it.

It's not my intention to be a troll on this site. I am quite fond of Pontiacs (I have 3 of them right now) and I may very well purchase a GTO, if it is further refined, in 05. Best regards to my fellow Pontiac people......Art

Mr. Vandelay,

How do you think I feel, I'm a 1/4 Polish. Grandma Meiloch (shortened from Meilochsky I'm sure). Now how many Polish jokes do you think I've heard in my nearly 40 years? The only people that can be offended are those who allow themselves to be. If everyone thinks Polish people are dumb, that's fine. If everyone believes Jewish people are tight with money that's fine too. But no one can do anything to me over the internet or otherwise unless I allow them to. I say piss on 'em. Don't get offended. Life's too short.

Here's the list that I'm currently worried about.

1) World Hunger
2) Nuclear annihilation
3) Aids
4) Cancer
5) Heart Disease
6) Putting two kids through college without selling da' house
7) Terrorism
8) Our troops abroad
9) How am I going to make my budget this year (work related)
10) Where the hell's my GTO?!

As you can see, polish jokes ain't even in the top 10.

Did you know that us Aussies hump kangaroos, and New Zealanders have insatiable sheep fetishes. Get over it already.

Now back to the newly acquired GTO......

I don't think there was any intention of offending anyone by anyone.

OK, get back on topic.

Back on topic,

I'm on five lists to drive the GTO whenever the Hell it finally arrives at the dealers in my area.

Last week I was in Austin/Houston for New Years Eve (and dropping my GN off at Conley Racing for some fun) and none of the dealers there had any GTOs in, nor did they know when they were getting them.

The wait to test drive one is getting frustrating.

I plan to buy, but I'm not willing to pay much over invoice for one. Especially if the car is made better for 2005.

I ordered a GTO from my local dealer in June of 2003. (Red/red/manual.) I was the first to place an order. They called me last week to let me know that they were allocated 11 GTO's and mine wasn't on their list. They didn't know why it is there. They said that they would see if they could find one as I ordered at another dealership and do a swap to get me my car. I said fine - I just want one.
They called me again a few days later to say that they would be charging $5000 over Invoice price. I nearly fell off my chair. I searched on the internet and called around a few other dealerships and left my phone number for them to call me if they could find me a red/red/manual. Got a reply from another dealership on Thursday. Some famous wrestler who ordered a GTO couldn't wait and bought something else instead so they have one in Kansas City for me. Paid my deposit on the spot. Should have her next week. The best part is I have bought it for sticker price. Not one cent over.
Is this common practice for dealerships to charge thousands over sticker?
I can't wait to get my machine and drive into my local Pontiac dealership and show them my receipt at sticker price.
Bought a tag for her today.

Can't wait. :P

That sucks. I'm sure there are a few dealers out there that will do that though.

The car is really awesome. I'm starting to drive it harder as I rack up few miles on it. Its fun to drive and feels solid. I don't miss my Z28 to much yet except mabey for the 6sp and noise. The boss (wife) said the camaro had more of a sports car look it but this car definetely looks good too. It does have alot more room and is more comfortable inside. I don't think anyone will be disappointed when they see this car in person and take it for a drive.

I gotta parochial question for ya... Can Aussies build cars? B)
This is obviously a silly question as this site is dedicated to an Australian made performance car. But as 99% of Americans know little about Australia, I am happy to inform you that Australia has a long and proud history of manufacturing all sorts of cars, including some great performance vehicles. It was Down Under where the first Ute (I think you call them sport trucks) rolled of a production line. While most global manufactures have moved to front wheel drive cars, Australian manufacturers have continued to build full size rear wheel drive V8s. Next time you go to a Video store rent the movie Mad Max on DVD (the VHS has been overdubbed with American accents) and you will see that like Americans, Aussies also love the sound of a big V8. :D :D

The wifes first impression

The wife took the car to work today and came home with a big smile on her face. She said she enjoyed every minute of the drive to and back from there. She drives on twisty roads through Hwy 113 in the Napa hills here in Cali and said the the car sticks to the road really good. Believe me after letting her drive the Z28 through there I know she would drive the hell out of it. She also said she had no problem leaving everyone behind her also. The wifes final remark was this car is awesome.

Heh, your wife sounds awesome.

BTW, my wife had exactly the same reaction to driving my Impala SS. She hates to go fast and does not understand the need to race or 'floor it' (and burnouts completely defy logic...), but everytime she was behind the wheel, she started to feel a little more sporty and drove quite a lot faster than she would ever admit to :dribble: :dribble: :dribble:

I guess the good thing is the car offers alot from the inside and behind the drivers seat. Obvouisly very weak on the exterior, but maybe they will get that fixed in yeras to come.
