After market differential

Hello all,

While I have just bought my yellow 04, I had a 11,000 mi. blue/blue 04 that I traded in on a new G8. Glad to say, the G8 was traded for the yellow 04.

The yellow 04 however has not lived an easy life, and the previous owner probably beat it as the rear end is whirring and clicking away. I know that it has to be replaced. My question is this:

Has anybody toyed with/ or is anybody building a HD diff from a different donor rear end i.e 12 bolt/8.8 ford/9"ford and keeping the irs intact? I know that there are those that have replaced the whole rear w/ a live rear axle, but I don't want to lose the e-brake, ABS, and the traction control if I can avoid it.

I'll do w/o the traction control if I have to, I know most of us turn the **** thing off anyway, and the e-brake is adaptable, but the abs are a must
have.

I've located a replacement diff for 400.00 at a salvage yard, and I won't beat the car anyway so it'll probably last as long as I want it, but..............
(there is always a "but")

mike

It's been done but you won't find big replacements on this forum, have to go to the other for that.

I've heard somebody did that already. I'll search where I saw it. Scot254 is right, you can't find huge replacement here. try searching for on-line auto parts dealer or perhaps your local dealer.

It's not as easy as getting a replacement engine assembly as what I did for my car.
It takes some time to heal.
After that, I would still find out if I can replace you..

there is a 9" IRS kit that will be a direct bolt in here>>> http://www.ls1gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=227412 or you can just upgrade the posi with a Detroit Tru Track and get whatever else rebuilt. that would be the cheaper option. we have a unique rear end and you can't go to a junk yard and just find one to swap out
