Looking at buying GTO's

Hello All,

ive been reading here, and as a prospective buyer, im glad i did!! i read someone's post about the february build date on 06's to have the struts replaced...GREAT INFO.

anyway, i drive 25-30 miles a day each way to work. my cavalier is just not cutting it...for that, and because its got NO BALLS!!

im making much more money now...and i can afford a 25k 5 year car loan. i was looking at 06 leftovers... and lightly used 05's.

is it good for highway driving like this? is it reliable? coming from a car with around 125 hp (with all the bolt-on's available) will this be too much? im only 23...but i do know how to drive, ive done racing courses, and i have done drag racing. (dont laugh...i get enough of that :-P )

i also like to modify my car...ESPECIALLY The audio system. how much of a pain in the butt is this? is the audio system very proprietary, any kinds of special requirements to change out radios/speakers/ or add subwoofers? what kind of aftermarket part availability is there for styling and performance?

i have yet to drive one.. gotta schedule a test drive...but can anyone give me a synopsis here? any input? greatly appreciated!!

I think the GTO would be great for what your looking for, just get the six speed so you can sit at 2000 RPM and do 80MPH on the highway. I know the audio system is decent to begin with, and that some have replaced the whole system, I'm not sure what the head unit would be in terms of dins, but im sure someone else will.

Take it for a test drive and it will decide for you.

Sorry I haven't gotten around to this one yet. My Goat is a DD (daily driver). Only time I really worry is when it snows and our winters here have been very mild the last few years.

I'm not an audio guy so I can't tackle your audio questions.

As for performance mods there is basically whatever you want. From simple bolt ons all the way up forced induction or big cube LS blocks offering everything under the sun.

Styling there is also a lot out there depending on your taste and your bank account.

As Nocturn said, take a test drive and you'll be hooked.

i was going to get an automatic considering sometimes i do get stuck in bumper to bumper traffic.

also, ive never driven a stick before. believe it or not, ive replaced a clutch before (i worked for a car dealer in the parts. dept) so im a bit nervous getting a stick in a car thats 25 grand (approx) never actually driving it before. is it relatively simple with this car when compared to other cars?
